In ‘Tales from the Vault’, Scottish author Neil Colquhoun brings you a collection of 10 short stories that are linked by blood. In ‘Access Denied’ a man who is continually being targeted by a gang of local kids finally takes the law into his own hands with disastrous consequences. ‘Blind’ will make you look twice at some of the people in your neighbourhood, especially sweet little old ladies. ‘The Debt Collector’ is a dark tale in which one man realises that all debts have to be collected regardless of the consequences. A character in ‘Angel’ could really be what he thinks he is, or be something else completely. ‘Machine’ is a science-fiction story about a computer that will change the world. In ‘Genesis’, two men, The Boss and Kid A, are searching for a famous character who has floated away in space. ‘The Muse’ is a tale about a writer who has lost his inspiration and is looking for something to kick-start his creative process again. ‘Patient Number Two (Coma)’ is about wishing to live longer, not wanting to die and the dangers of a heart transplant. ‘Afraid of Sunlight’ has a stranger and a man who has memories of a dark period in his life. ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is a tale of love with no boundaries. Be prepared to listen to things a bit weird, sometimes horrific, a little strange… but all have the same hybrid horror/sci-fi/fantasy mix that Neil Colquhoun does best.

Mark Dawson is a best selling self-published author on multiple platforms including Amazon and Kobo. He is the author of the John Milton thriller series and its spin-off Beatrix Rose. In addition, he’s written several ‘Soho Noir’ novels. Mark’s breakthrough came when he developed a marketing strategy for promoting and selling his books. His swift success enabled him to quit his 9 to 5 job and he has generated gross revenues of more than a million dollars in less than five years.

Mark has become a leading voice in the self publishing industry and he advocates and teaches a strategy based around offering books for free, mailing list development and social media advertising. In 2015, he published the first version of what is now his acclaimed online course ‘Advertising for Authors’. He has also developed a course for writers at the start of their careers – Self Publishing 101.

James Blatch co-hosts the podcast and he represents the first time, wannabe author. James is a former BBC News journalist who is currently writing his first novel.

Between them James and Mark explore the world of self publishing with a focus on actionable tips for new and experienced indie authors.

When an Oxford undergraduate meets by chance, a mysterious stranger, during a walking tour of France, he does not know that the unusual charismatic being he has made the acquaintance of, is in fact a disguised alien being, named Aleriel. Coming from the planet of peace, Venus, this space traveler claims to be visiting Earth for the first time. Thus begins an unusual interplanetary friendship, that takes our Oxford graduate on an amazing adventure, first into the war-torn streets of Paris, then across the English Channel, to busy London and finally on to tranquil Oxford. Aleriel then leaves his friend and explores many parts of the earth, to discover the state of mankind and humanity, before departing in his ‘ether car’ for the Moon, then returning to his home planet to report all his findings to advanced beings there. Aleriel next experiences, with two Venusian companions, an perilous, exciting and illuminating tour, of the solar system, visiting first Mars, the asteroids and planetary moons and finally, mighty and mysterious Saturn and Jupiter. All this extra-terrestrial experience, Aleriel records in a fantastic journal, which arrives mysteriously at our now-married undergraduate’s home. It is an incredible story. But is it really the truth or just a very clever hoax? Our young couple travel to meet Aleriel in the mountains of Switzerland, determined to find out. A contemporary of both Jules Verne, the fantasy Victorian novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and later the futuristic writer HG Wells, This 1883 novel by Polish-English curate, author and historian: Wladislav Lach-Szyrma, is an extraordinary, futuristic and visionary tale, will entertain, enlighten and intrigue every listener.
