The extraordinary stories of mega gifts and multi-million-dollar campaigns from the arts leaders who delivered them.
During the past decade in Australia, we’ve seen more record-breaking multi-million-dollar gifts announced than ever before. These gifts have transformed the cultural sector for the benefit of dancers, actors, writers, researchers and audiences everywhere. We celebrate the philanthropists who gave them yet the stories of how these gifts came into being often remains hidden.
How We Raised It draws back the curtain to hear directly from the individuals who made these campaigns happen. We’ll meet the leaders of some of Australia’s greatest arts companies – The Australian Ballet, Sydney Theatre Company, the National Library of Australia and others – and hear how they galvanised Boards, fundraising teams and donors into making the impossible, possible.
Hosted by Melissa Smith – Australia’s only Global Fundraiser of the Year, with almost 20 years’ experience in philanthropy and fundraising. Commissioned by Creative Partnerships Australia, in partnership with Noble Ambition.
For more resources and arts philanthropy know-how, head to creativepartnerships.gov.au. For more on fundraising leadership and episode recommendations to apply to your organisation, go to nobleambition.com.au
In this podcast, I’ll give you some tips in order to get well prepared for a long trip and also when you’ll be in the country! So stay here if you want to travel!

Look around you. All your appliances, devices, food products, and even the laptop or phone you’re using to listen to the podcast is probably tied to a brand. That’s the focus on this podcast. The recognizability, the vision, all the way down to the color scheme. It’s the brand. It’s so important, yet we don’t think about it. We’re all stuck on a brand.
