Welcome and thanks for stopping by! We are a husband and wife team in rural Minnesota. One afternoon, feeling overwhelmed by daily life, we decided to read a short story by George MacDonald together. We began exchanging our ideas about it. Then it struck Catherine that this would make a fun idea for a podcast. And the rest is history! Whether you’re here as an ardent scholar of George MacDonald, as someone completely new to the MacDonald scene, or somewhere in the middle, we appreciate your curiosity about our content.

I’ve been a Scare Actor since 2002. Once the mask comes off, I’m a pretty average guy who doesn’t fit the stereotype of somebody who enjoys splattering fake blood all over myself and giving people nightmares, but over the last couple decades, I have met many interesting people and have heard and told so many great stories all related to scaring. This podcast was created to relay those stories on to fellow scare actors, fans of haunted attractions, or anybody that just wants a good laugh at someone else’s expense.Rated PG-13 because we talk about weird stuff. But you’ll never hear the F-Word, because I think it’s funny to beep it out.

The #1 New York Times bestseller and beloved classic includes an afterword from the author.
One summer’s day, ten-year-old India Opal Buloni goes down to the local supermarket for some groceries—and comes home with a dog. But Winn-Dixie is no ordinary dog. It’s because of Winn-Dixie that Opal begins to make friends. And it’s because of Winn-Dixie that she finally dares to ask her father about her mother, who left when Opal was three. In fact, as Opal admits, just about everything that happens that summer is because of Winn-Dixie. “This book is (I hope) a hymn of praise to dogs, friendship, and the South,” Kate DiCamillo said of her best-selling debut novel, which has been awarded a Newbery Honor, translated into nearly thirty languages, and turned into a major motion picture. The story of a preacher’s daughter named Opal whose life is transformed by a scruffy dog named Winn-Dixie continues to touch the hearts of readers of all ages.
