Escape – Thrilling and Suspenseful Stories from Adventure to Mystery to Horror

    by

    Since May 8, 2023 14:32 UTC

“Escape” was a radio show that aired from 1947 to 1954 and was one of the most popular dramatic radio shows of its time. The show was produced by CBS and featured a variety of thrilling and suspenseful stories, from adventure to mystery to horror. Many of the episodes were adaptations of classic literature, such as H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine” and Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.

“One of the unique aspects of “Escape” was its use of sound effects to create a vivid and immersive atmosphere. The show’s producers used a variety of techniques to create realistic sounds, from using creaking doors and footsteps to simulate movement, to using animal sounds and music to heighten tension and emotion. This attention to detail made the show a favorite among listeners, who could easily imagine themselves in the worlds created by the program.

Some of the most memorable episodes of “Escape” include “Three Skeleton Key,” which tells the story of a group of lighthouse keepers besieged by rats, and “The Most Dangerous Game,” which is based on Richard Connell’s short story of the same name and follows a man who is hunted for sport on a remote island. Other episodes included tales of spies, thieves, and explorers, as well as stories set in exotic locales like India and Africa.

Overall, “Escape” was a thrilling and entertaining radio show that captured the imaginations of listeners across the United States. Its use of sound effects and talented cast of actors helped to create a sense of realism and immersion that made it one of the most beloved shows of the era.

Short Science Fiction Collection 035 by Various

Short Science Fiction Collection 035 by Various

    by

    Since Jan 1, 1970 00:00 UTC

Science Fiction is speculative literature that generally explores the consequences of ideas which are roughly consistent with nature and scientific method, but are not facts of the author’s contemporary world. The stories often represent philosophical thought experiments presented in entertaining ways. Protagonists typically “think” rather than “shoot” their way out of problems, but the definition is flexible because there are no limits on an author’s imagination. The reader-selected stories presented here were written prior to 1962 and became US public domain texts when their copyrights expired. (Summary by Gregg Margarite)
