    Autism Knows No Borders

    Since Apr 22, 2020 23:02 UTC

Discover what’s possible when people impacted by autism inspire change and build community.

Together with self-advocates, family members, educators, and international autism service providers, Rachel Harmon from the Global Autism Project explores stories of challenges and breakthroughs to extend the reach of human connection and remind people that they are not alone.

Tune in each week for new episodes and meaningful conversations. For more information, please visit www.globalautismproject.org.

Rachel Harmon is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst originally from California and currently lives in Barcelona, Spain. Rachel started her involvement with the Global Autism Project as a volunteer on a SkillCorps® trip to Uganda in 2018. Her role as Regional Coordinator has brought her to partner sites in Kenya, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Czech Republic and Netherlands.

Discover what’s possible when a mother’s love transcends her own home.

Our guest today is Mrs. Jie Bing Zhang. As a mother of a 21-year-old autistic young man, Mrs. Zhang is the founder of Huicong Children Rehabilitation Center in Nanchang, China. She is also one of our Global Autism Project partners.

The Global Autism Project partnered with Huicong in 2017, and we have since sent 3 SkillCorps volunteer teams to provide hands-on sustainable training to their teachers and staff.

For this interview, our podcast intern, Linda Zheng, interpreted from Chinese to English for us. Thank you, Linda, for your effort to ensure Mrs. Zhang’s message is understood.

    In this conversation, we discuss:

    – The level of autism awareness in China
    – What it was like for Mrs. Zhang to receive her son’s diagnosis
    – Why she started her own autism center
    – The types of services they offer
    – The partnership between Global Autism Project and Huicong

To learn more about Mrs. Zhang and her work, please visit our show notes at autismknowsnoborders.com.

Help! I Think My Baby Brother is Henry the Eighth!

Help! I Think My Baby Brother is Henry the Eighth!

    by

    Since Dec 28, 2022 10:00 UTC

How would you feel if, all of a sudden, your baby brother started to act just like King Henry the Eighth? This is what happens to a very ordinary boy called Arthur. Arthur enjoys his completely normal life. But then his life is dramatically turned upside down when his baby brother begins appears to be the loud, demanding monarch, asking for lamb shanks, riding the family dog like a horse and making Arthur’s life a misery. Told completely in verse (with the occasional aside from the poet to clear the odd thing up) From the author of The Haunted Underpants and originally heard on the acclaimed kids show Double Dip Recess on WFMU radio, Help! I Think My Baby Brother is Henry the Eighth is a fantastical, very, very, silly story of Arthur and Henry and how he comes to terms with the fact that, yes, his brother really does seem to be a tiny king in baby form.(Artwork: Rob Flowers: https://www.instagram.com/hellorobflowers/)

    Adventures of Bulldog Drummond

    by

    Since Aug 1, 2022 01:34 UTC

The British Hero Bulldog Drummond is a fictional character created by H. C. McNeile, as the hard boiled no nonsense-style detective. The stories followed Captain Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond, D.S.O., M.C., a wealthy former WWI officer of the Loamshire Regiment, who, after the war, spends his new-found leisure time as a private detective.Drummond is a proto-James Bond figure and was a muscular man with a group of followers who helped him in his adventures. They rounded up crooks and took them to a place only they knew and reformed them. Drummond and his men, the “Black Gang”, beat the be jabbers out of the men till they learned their lesson and renounced crime. Join us as we listen to the adventures of this British Detective.
