Anne of the Island by Lucy Maud Montgomery

Anne of the Island by Lucy Maud Montgomery

    by

    Since Nov 23, 2019 00:00 UTC

Anne of the Island is the third book in the Anne of Green Gables series following the adventures of its heroine Anne Shirley as she leaves for Redmond College in the busy city of Kingsport to study for her bachelor’s degree. The third installment in the series sees the beloved protagonist experience new adventures and challenges outside the familiar setting of Avonlea. The novel kicks off when Anne decides to pursue her dream of a higher education, and subsequently leaves her two year teaching position at the school in Avonlea and begins her studies at Redmond College. Fortunately, Anne is not alone in the new environment, as she is accompanied by her old friends Gilbert Blythe, who has also enrolled in Redmond College, as well as roommates Priscilla, Philippa and Stella. Though Anne has her mind set on good grades and flawless academic prosperity, she cannot avoid the tides of love and the many suitors offering their affection. When Anne rejects Gilbert’s proposal, stating that she only views him as a friend, she must undergo a journey of self-searching and discover the true meaning of love. Striving for a true love resembling those from the many books she has read, Anne must draw the line between fiction and reality, or she might miss her only chance at happiness. Montgomery’s third installment can be considered to be a turning point in Anne’s life as the novel brings new problems and important decisions to be made, which in turn will either make or break her. Womanhood, maturing, and love are just some of the themes explored in this classic. A novel depicting the inevitable process of growing up, Anne of the Island is a perfect illustration of the challenging and sometimes awkward moments we all go through to achieve our full potential in life. A Short History of the United States by Edward Channing

A Short History of the United States by Edward Channing

    by

    Since Dec 9, 2023 00:00 UTC

First published in 1908, A Short History of The United States by Edward Channing aims to provide a compact and concise account of the events that went into the making of the United States of America. Divided into 45 short chapters which are laid out point-wise, the book is designed as a school text book. Each chapter has a section at the end with a set of questions regarding the facts given in it. Beginning with theories about the first European who may have “discovered” the North American continent, the book goes on to describe the various countries who colonized it, the impact of the American Revolution, and finally ends with the situation in America in 1900 when this book was completed. Maps and illustrations are also given. Edward Channing was a historian and writer whose magnum opus was a massive six-volume History of the United States, which earned him the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1926. Since this shorter version was designed more to be a text book for school-children, A Short History of the United States touches on the main points in the history of this country without going into details. There is not much of an attempt here to provide character studies of the prominent players on the historical stage. No opinions or points of view are offered, and the book remains a collection of facts. The approach to history has changed over the decades. Today it is no longer seen as a bald account of wars, conquests and territorial conflicts that took place – instead, modern-day readers require social, economic and political aspects as well, which this little book may not provide. As a collection of important facts and a quick reference book, A Short History of the United States is a useful addition to your bookshelf.

Brittany is the mom next door you hope to have as your gf! Being a mom is full-time… but having a side hustle for yourself is important too. Through years of kids, diapers, careers and some WTF moments, she has finally found an outlet to express the chaos, ask the questions and dive in to deeper learning and a space to call her own! After years of bringing MOMS together by hosting evening get-togethers over glasses of wine, no kids or partners and a whole lot of common complaints, Brittany decided it was time to bring her female driven topics and #momdiscoveries to the podcasting platform. Here she talks all things life, health, fitness, kids, relationships – you name it, nothing is off the table! Diving deeper into all things motherhood, womanhood, and boss babe personal growth, she interviews some incredible guests finding tips and tricks, parenting hacks and longevity tips to make the most of our lives while keeping our sanity in check! It’s time to get real, let go of the expectations we feel from the outside and begin to live a life of fulfillment for self. Show yourself some self love and take some selfcare time to listen in! Brittany was a Realtor in her hometown of Vancouver before altering the look of her days and deciding to stay home to raise her kids…insert SAHM (stay at home mom) here. Although this was a choice she made, she always felt there was something missing in her path and from there, her self discovery began. After a few years of blogging and some other side hustles, Brittanys interest in the Podcast world grew. As an avid listener, she realized this is a world of creativity she would love to express herself within. With 21 years of partnership and 15+ years of marriage to her husband, 3 kids who are no longer babies and hitting the tween and teen years, family dramas, life stresses and anxieties, homeschooling and mental health hurdles… she has experienced many facets of life and is always open for further learning, education and knowledge. Brittany is also a driven competitor. She loves a good Ironman Triathlon or Trail Run. You can find her any day of the week with Lululemons and running shoes on either coming from a weights session at the gym, finishing a spin with Peloton or heading to the local trails for a solid run with her girlfriends and dog. Grab yourself a coffee, or a glass of wine, and tune in weekly to get to know Brittany a little more and learn all the tips from her amazing guest interviews! We’ll be drinking a few cold ones, spilling the tea on our worst moments, and bringing on guests who probably regret agreeing to come on the show.

We may not have all the answers, but we’ll have a good laugh at life’s mishaps and misfortunes. So tune in and let us make your week just a little bit worse – in the best way possible.

After all, isn’t it better to laugh at your problems than cry? Or better yet, just laugh with us and forget about those problems altogether!
