She earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(TM) practitioner designation and went on to earn a Master’s in Finance, Financial Analysis, even though she already had a Ph.D. in education. Active in her profession, Peggy is a member of the Women in Finance (WIN) Initiative of the CFP Board. She is also a consumer advocate for financial issues, including a mandatory fiduciary duty from financial professionals, through her membership on the Legislative and Regulatory Issues Committee of the Financial Planning Association. However, perhaps Peggy’s greatest shaping of the profession has come through staying in education. She has taught literally thousands of financial advisers in classes covering advanced certifications, the preparatory curriculum for the CFP exam, and master’s level courses in financial planning. Alabama’s “Children of Chernobyl” program is a story that’s still unfolding. The Lee family, of Pelham, took in nine year old “Vanya” from the nation of Belarus in the year 2000. “Children of Chernobyl” was created to bring kids living in the shadow of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster to Alabama for medical treatment and a chance to escape the contamination. What the Lee family didn’t know was the effect Vanya’s visit would have on them twenty years later.
