CSIS looks at how rapidly changing technology and cybersecurity are affecting the world in the twenty-first century. Issues covered include intelligence, surveillance, encryption, privacy, military technology, space, and more. Programs leading the research on this topic include the Strategic Technologies Program and the International Security Program. Find the latest research from our scholars and CSIS events on this topic below. Join us at CSIS to hear Dr. Walter Copan, Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director, discuss the NIST Privacy Framework.

There is no one solution for organizations that seek to manage risks to individual’s privacy while ensuring that they are developing innovative products and services. Because it was developed in collaboration with public and private sector stakeholders, the NIST Privacy Framework is flexible and timely, making it the best tool to assist organizations in addressing diverse privacy needs while enabling innovation current with technology trends.

    MCMP – History of Philosophy

    MCMP – History of Philosophy

    by

    Since Oct 19, 2013 15:10 UTC

Mathematical Philosophy – the application of logical and mathematical methods in philosophy – is about to experience a tremendous boom in various areas of philosophy. At the new Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, which is funded mostly by the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, philosophical research will be carried out mathematically, that is, by means of methods that are very close to those used by the scientists. The purpose of doing philosophy in this way is not to reduce philosophy to mathematics or to natural science in any sense; rather mathematics is applied in order to derive philosophical conclusions from philosophical assumptions, just as in physics mathematical methods are used to derive physical predictions from physical laws. Nor is the idea of mathematical philosophy to dismiss any of the ancient questions of philosophy as irrelevant or senseless: although modern mathematical philosophy owes a lot to the heritage of the Vienna and Berlin Circles of Logical Empiricism, unlike the Logical Empiricists most mathematical philosophers today are driven by the same traditional questions about truth, knowledge, rationality, the nature of objects, morality, and the like, which were driving the classical philosophers, and no area of traditional philosophy is taken to be intrinsically misguided or confused anymore. It is just that some of the traditional questions of philosophy can be made much clearer and much more precise in logical-mathematical terms, for some of these questions answers can be given by means of mathematical proofs or models, and on this basis new and more concrete philosophical questions emerge. This may then lead to philosophical progress, and ultimately that is the goal of the Center.

International Conference: ‘Use and Abuse of Law in the Athenian Courts’, 16-18 April 2013, UCL – Audio

    by

    Since Nov 7, 2013 14:53 UTC

A total of 27 papers were delivered by speakers from the UK, mainland Europe, North and South America and Japan. Speakers included leading established experts in the field and early career researchers, among them postgraduate students. The conference attracted another 35 participants from the UK and Europe. Response from all participants was enthusiastic. The quality of the papers was very high and negotiations for publication are underway with a major press. In addition, probably a first among UK Classics conferences, the whole event was filmed and has now been uploaded to the internet at https://www.ucl.ac.uk/classics/engagement/use_and_abuse_of_law_in_the_athenian_courts for use both by professionals in research and teaching and by interested members of the public. (The organisers: I. Giannadaki, Professor Chris Carey).

    Rub Radio (Brooklyn Radio)

    Rub Radio (Brooklyn Radio)

    by

    Since Apr 19, 2019 00:01 UTC

In July 2002, The Rub began with a simple goal: the creation of a classics and hip-hop party to be held on the first Saturday of every month at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY. We do it Brooklyn style: great dance music mixed well, affordable drinks, and real people; no dress code, no bottle service, no VIPs and no celebrity DJs. The combination of great music, a hot and sweaty dance floor, and phenomenal word-of-mouth buzz for the party brought the people there. The unparalleled mix of hip hop, disco, 80s, reggae, funk, house and everything in between keeps them coming back. In addition, the three DJs have been releasing mixtapes at a breakneck pace, traveling to gigs around the world, and put out six official Rub CDs and 11 records. Over the last few years, The Rub boys have DJed in over 50 cities in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and everywhere in between alongside Public Enemy, Chemical Brothers, Justice, Slick Rick, Diplo, Mark Ronson, Moby, A-Trak, DJ Premier, Blonde Redhead, MSTRKRTFT, Spankrock, and Grandmaster Flash, to name a few.
