Unsung is a podcast where I cover music from Top 40 to the band-next-door via reviews shorter than a song. Starting on my 26th birthday (1/5/15) I’ll be reviewing an album (almost) every day, hoping to reach the magic number (300!) before the ball drops on 2016. Each review will start with a short synopsis, followed by a Choice Cut (stand-out track) that I will dive into and play a snippit from. I’ll then share some Next of Kin- related artists that might help you put a thumb on if this album is for you or not. I’ll give each record a rating of Red, Yellow or Green. Red is barely listenable, yellow is worthwhile and green is a great record. When I think something is amazing, I will give it a gold star because, Kindergarten. What gives me the audacity to review an album a day? I’ve been thinking and writing about music for most my life, and have been published on an awesome website called Treble for over three years. Unsung is my attempt to document the process of listening to/evaluating TONS of records every year- and a chance to test out a new format at the same time.

At only 19-years-old, Gabe Fleisher has already made quite a name for himself. When he was 9-years-old, Gabe started getting up at the crack of dawn to send out a daily email newsletter with his analysis of the political news cycle. He called it Wake Up To Politics, and it slowly developed a large readership. Now, in partnership with St. Louis Public Radio, Fleisher will extend his popular newsletter with a podcast that explains the inner workings of American politics. And just like his newsletter, episodes will be short, sweet and to the point.

Practice flexible thinking about ADHD. If an idea presented contradicts something you’ve heard elsewhere, rather than rigidly arguing about which viewpoint must be the correct one, ask yourself, “Is there a way both of these could be true?” This podcast invites you to think optimistically about who you are and what you are capable of. You may at times resist this invitation, worrying that if you think only of the positive you won’t take responsibility for impulsive behaviors. Ask yourself, “Is there a way I can reframe my impulsiveness and still take responsibility for my behavior?” Push yourself to find ways to think in terms of “both/and” rather than “either/or.”
