    Underunderstood

    Underunderstood

    by

    Since Jun 28, 2019 18:24 UTC

There are questions the internet just can’t answer. But that doesn’t mean we can’t find them. On each episode of Underunderstood, we find a question the internet can’t answer — maybe it’s a dead-end Wikipedia page, an abandoned Reddit thread, or an unanswered question on Twitter — and we fill in the gaps. It’s part chat show, part documentary, and almost always surprising.

    The Other Side of Campus

    The Other Side of Campus

    by

    Since Sep 8, 2020 16:00 UTC

“Who we are as people shapes who we are as teachers.” The Other Side of Campus brings you the voices and experiences of faculty from all across UT Austin who want to innovate, create, and grow as teachers. Sharing their stories, insights, and memorable moments in a lecture hall, these educators are here to engage everyone in the learning process, including themselves. Hosted by faculty from the Provost’s Teaching Fellows at UT Austin, this program is meant to provide a fun and entertaining space to explore ways in which personal narratives shape campuses, classrooms, students, and teachers. As one of the biggest institutions in America, UT has a lot of room for improved cross-campus connections and for building teaching and learning bridges. We look forward to seeing you on The Other Side of Campus! Executive Producer and Creator: Mary C. Neuburger ABOUT THE PROVOST’S TEACHING FELLOWS The Fellows are hard-working, forward-thinking, community-minded faculty committed to improving teaching practice and campus culture at UT Austin. The current cohort of 43 Fellows represents faculty of all rank, 13 Colleges and Schools, and a multiplicity of disciplines and unique perspectives. At present, 25 Teaching Fellows pursue individual initiatives, 18 Senior Fellows provide mentorship and guidance, and 11 Alumni Fellows remain active in the program. Collectively, Fellows spearhead events that benefit the entire campus, including the New Faculty Symposium, monthly Think Tanks where faculty discuss thorny issues in a safe and collaborative environment, and Eyes on Teaching. From Woke to Work: The Anti-Racist Journey

From Woke to Work: The Anti-Racist Journey

    by

    Since Nov 18, 2020 10:00 UTC

This is From Woke to Work: The Anti-Racist Journey. Hosted by Kamala Avila-Salmon, she talks about what it means to go from a self-proclaimed ally to an effective anti-racist. Whether you’re an ally that’s ready to take action or a Black person looking for a place to direct all those ally questions, this is the podcast you’ll want to keep close at hand. There’s something missing about the way that we’re talking about allyship. Kamala felt it more acutely than ever in the wake of the murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. In this moment, the biggest global awakening on racism and racial injustice in a generation, more and more white and non-black people started showing up declaring themselves “Anti-Racist”. What were they doing? What were they actually doing besides messages of concern to their black friends and turning your profile pictures Black? What actions were they taking? Kamala started to get mad, but then she got curious. Did these newly “woke” allies know they needed to do things to bring about racial justice and equity? Did they know what to do? She put pen to paper and sketched out an anti-racism journey modeled after the traditional marketing funnel of how we get consumers from unaware to adopters of our product. Over the series of this podcast, Kamala will talk about that journey; how you can go from being woke (i.e. aware of racial inequity and injustice) to actually doing the work and eradicating it.

    PQ&A – USITT at the 2019 PQ

    PQ&A – USITT at the 2019 PQ

    by

    Since Jun 5, 2019 05:37 UTC

PQ&A is USITT’s companion podcast to the US Exhibition at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial. It is hosted by Ian Garrett, lead curator for the exhibition. On PQ&A Ian talks with the featured designers in the US Exhibition about their background, inspirations, and what gives them their unique world view.

In the exhibition for 2019 we wanted to recognize that the United States is a nation of immigrants, and celebrate our diversity… most people in the US can identify immigrant roots. Those immigrant roots, together with the people that can trace their ancestry back to more than 500 Native American tribes, we refer to as this the cultural DNA of the artists who create the work in our communities.

This rich cultural diversity and wisdom contributes to the creativity, ingenuity, and knowledge that we find inspirational. So, iIn addition to the selected work, the exhibition incorporates the oral history of the designers, positioning them in relationship to the field and their own work.

For this podcast, I talk to the designers about their background, their connection to performance design, their mentors and influencers, who they have mentored and influenced, and how these factors have affected their approach to design and scenography.
