Autumn Fischer and Greg Russ are tackling life’s big issues one topic at a time. A whole episode dedicated to salt? Sure, they’d be open to that. A discussion about that old movie you wouldn’t think anyone would ever feel the need to talk about in-depth? Already done it. An hour on the passing of an hour? Why not? If you’re a thoughtless chump who holds no curiosity for the world around you, don’t waste your time listening to this podcast. But if you’re self-aware, smart, and fall for reverse psychology, One Topic is the show for you.

    How They’re Doing It

    How They’re Doing It

    by

    Since Apr 27, 2022 15:52 UTC

Living in a world where the best parts of our lives are highlighted through social media, feeling as though we’re the only ones who have yet to figure things out becomes inevitable. However, as we focus on comparing our life to everybody else’s highlight reel, we forget to recognize that behind every perfect picture we see, comes a much more complicated and intricate story. How They’re Doing It with Lana Amoudi is an opportunity for us to delve deeper into those stories, become vulnerable with one another, and truly understand what it means to have things “all figured out”. This podcast features deep, personal, and eye-opening conversations with people who inspire Lana about where they’ve been, who they’ve come to be, and where they think they’re going. Together, we can focus less on figuring it all out and more on learning to embrace all that life has to offer- good, bad, and everything in between.

An eclectic collection of unreleased Lapdancer material. Also, the occasional DJ mix sets manipulated and mangled for your earhole pleasures. From my heart to yours. Lapdancer AKA Drake Hills is a musician/noisician, filmmaker, writer, teacher, reader and coffee afficianado residing in Japan. [itunes pic]
Cobra Voice is an experiment in vocalics. A minimal and disjointed filmic sequence of squelches, creaking, squeaking, shrieks and other vocal induced noise. Like the cobra, the music here snaps, hisses and slides. At the same time, there is an underlying story here, a gentle melody floats in, a scene is painted on the screen of your mind, a cat, a horse, a house, a boat. This is by far one of my most powerful works and I provide it to you free of charge. WARNING: ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING

The Golden Age by Kenneth Grahame

The Golden Age by Kenneth Grahame

    by

    Since Sep 16, 2020 00:00 UTC

If you’ve loved and cherished The Wind in The Willows, you’ll be delighted to read The Golden Age. In this book of reminiscences by Kenneth Grahame, the much loved creator of Winnie The Pooh, readers are granted an insight into the writer’s childhood. The opening lines of the Prologue provide a poignant reminder of Grahame’s childhood. When he was just five, his mother died in childbirth and his father who had a long standing problem with alcoholism consigned his four children, including the newborn baby, to the care of their grandmother in Berkshire. The rambling old house was a treasure trove of passages and attics, filled with old things and provided the children with plenty of excitement. Their uncle who was a member of the clergy in a neighboring village, often came to take them boating and walking in the nearby woods. These are the memories that are so charmingly captured in Grahame’s books. Though he was a brilliant pupil, financial issues did not allow him to pursue further education at college. Instead, he went to work in a bank. His writing career began relatively early on, with the publication of short stories in various magazines when he was just 20 years old. However, it was in 1908, when he was more than 40 that The Wind in The Willows was published, which was received with great admiration and enjoyment by both adults and children. The Golden Age was published in 1895. Some of the stories in it had already appeared in various magazines. It was greeted by poets like Swinburne with much praise and almost instantly regarded as a classic. What’s interesting about The Golden Age is that in this book, Grahame uses the metaphor of Ancient Greek legends and stories as parallels to his own life. The adults are termed “The Olympians” appearing remote, inaccessible and lofty to a child. Their activities are incomprehensible to the young mind while they had no interest in the doings of their wards. Grahame’s humorous yet ironical tone lends a touch of fun to the adult world as seen through the eyes of a child. Other chapters describe the fun of being outdoors, visitors and relatives who come to the house, childhood games of Roundheads and Royalists, King Arthur’s Knights, bandits and damsels in distress, knights errant, soldiers and princesses and everything else that a group of high spirited children could devise out of their boundless imaginations. Youthful escapades, stolen fruit, daredevil stunts and the carefree days of childhood are vividly captured in The Golden Age. For modern day readers, these recollections are interesting and in almost complete contrast to children’s lives today, yet the book is an amusing and easy read for all ages. Spirits in Bondage by LEWIS, C. S.

Spirits in Bondage by LEWIS, C. S.

    by

    Since Jan 1, 1970 00:00 UTC

Spirits in Bondage is C.S. Lewis’s first book and the first of his works to be available in the public domain. It was released in 1919 under the pseudonym of Clive Hamilton and was written in a period of darker thought for C.S. Lewis than was later evidenced in his Christian apologist writings. The darkness of the verse is most evident in Part One (The Prison House), begins to change in the short transitional Part Two (Hesitation) and attains a more hopeful tone in the final Part Three (Escape). Yet a dreamy effect, influenced by Celtic and Druid mythology, persists throughout.Spirits in Bondage consists of forty poems that provide an intriguing insight into the youthful heart of C.S. Lewis and occasionally provides interesting lyrical foreshadowing of some of the landscapes portrayed in his famous Chronicles of Narnia series. (Summary by Robert Garrison)

    Famous Potatoes

    Famous Potatoes

    by

    Since Mar 25, 2010 02:46 UTC

“An engaging picaresque novel of a young man on the run. A warm, well-told story of a likable character with a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.” —Publisher’s Weekly Willy Middlebrook is a nice boy from the suburbs, a Vietnam vet, a college drop-out majoring in Human Kindness. Framed for the murder of a cop, Willy goes on the lam from the law. With hopeful heart and broken balls he lives among the people of the humble cafes and dusty bars, underground: “They have rough brown skin and wrinkled eyes. They are round and they are usually dirty. They are hard because they have to be, but if you warm them they get soft and you can make them sweet.” Famous Potatoes is a road novel with a touch of noir, a tall tale that has been called “exuberant, funny, and humane.” “Like the smudged chrome of a truck-stop diner, Famous Potatoes is an element of a new American realism, and Cottonwood has made it an engaging trip.” —Chicago Tribune The year is 1973. Back in those days only bad people got tattoos; long distance calls cost a small fortune; and an IBM 360 computer with a few hundred kilobytes was enough to run a bank. “Cottonwood [has] charm–wry, loping, never cute. And, even more crucial, there is Willy’s (and Cottonwood’s) genuine people-liking, which makes Willy’s complications seem less dire; the troubled travels become a nice excuse to meet more interesting folks. Laid-back–but not too much–and attractive.” —Kirkus As a young man, Joe Cottonwood used to hitchhike everywhere. Many of the encounters in Famous Potatoes are based on actual events from those times. “Blessed with that wonderfully extravagant and original talent for telling tall tales, Joe Cottonwood weaves a whopper that catches you up and rockets you overland as Willy hitches himself on to one crazy adventure after another. . . Willy ‘Crusoe’ Middlebrook, anonymous fugitive, naive suburbanite, sexual suicide, husband on the run from Philadelphia and St. Louis to the sky-high Rockies of Idaho . . . ” —Black Swan “Philadelphia may never be the same again.” —Cleveland Plain Dealer This podcast is rated deep R for bad language and occasional scenes of funky sex. And a lot of joy. Author’s note: I wrote this novel forty years ago as a cockeyed love letter to the USA. I was a young man without children. Now I am a grandfather. A few of the passages, as I review them now, could make a grandfather blush. Nevertheless I have resisted the impulse to censor any youthful excess. I’ve also let stand the passages that would now be deemed Politically Incorrect. They are an accurate rendition of the times (1973).
