It can be hard to connect what we hear in worship to the rest of our lives. But the Way of Jesus is not just something we hear about on Sunday — it is something we walk, live, eat, breathe and discuss all week long. This is why we, the people of 8th Street, carry a practice with us from Sunday into the rest of the week. Each Monday, one of the pastors will share a practice for the week ahead, based on Sunday’s scripture text and sermon. Join us as we walk this way of Jesus together, and receive all the freedom and joy Jesus offers us along the way.

H.M.S. Pinafore; or, The Lass That Loved a Sailor, is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It opened in London, England, on 25 May 1878 and ran for 571 performances, which was the second-longest run of any musical theatre piece up to that time. H.M.S. Pinafore was Gilbert and Sullivan’s fourth operatic collaboration and their first international sensation. This is not that opera. It was adapted as a children’s book by W. S. Gilbert entitled The Story of HMS Pinafore, or The Pinafore Picture Book, and includes some lovely illustrations by Alice B. Woodward that can be seen by following the archive.org link to the actual scanned book if you wish. No singing or any of Sullivan’s music, just Gilbert’s witty words laid out – by him – in prose and poetry with amusing asides.(Summary by Wikipedia and ToddHW)

Have you ever had a dream? Something you wanted so bad you just couldn’t let it go? For a group of kids in Harlem in the Eighties, their dreams would change pop music forever. Teddy Riley, Timmy Gatling, and Aaron Hall form a group called Guy that would fuse hip-hop and R&B and launch a new sound. By the early Nineties, the New Jack Sound dominated the pop music charts: Bell Biv Devoe, Bobby Brown, Boyz II Men, and many more. But the rise of the New Jack sound would come at a cost, and not everyone would make it to the top. Hosted by Taraji P Henson. From Wondery and Universal Music Group, Jacked is a story of friendship, gangsters, double-crosses, and big dreams.
Hosted by Golden Globe winner Taraji P. Henson
All episodes are available now. You can binge the series exclusively, and ad-free, on Wondery+ or on Amazon Music with a Prime membership or Amazon Music Unlimited subscription.
