In the Spring Semester of 2017, 15 Yale students decided to make a podcast—after all, the only thing Yale students enjoy more than hearing themselves talk is making the entire Internet hear them talk. The podcast was a class project for English 471, taught by Mark Oppenheimer, but soon became a labor of love that transcended traditional academic activities. It’s a podcast full of Yale stories. It’s not just about the privileged lives of some elitist undergrads—though you’ll inevitably hear a bit of that. But more than that, it’s full of real, unexpected stories: what it’s like to be poor at Yale, what it’s like to work in a dining hall on campus, and what it’s like to be in a room full of naked people. Give it a listen and get a taste of this funny school on the Connecticut coast.

Despite the Grateful Dead’s ethos of peace and love and communal music, there is a darkness that surrounds the band. Across five decades, a string of unexplained accidents, murders and disappearances have befallen some of the band’s most dedicated fans; affectionately known as “DeadHeads.” Some were last seen on their way to Grateful Dead concerts, others simply vanished or were tragically murdered while attending shows. Hosted by Payne Lindsey (Up and Vanished) and Jake Brennan (Disgraceland), DEAD AND GONE Season 2 dives deep into the DeadHead subculture, investigating four of these tragic unresolved cases while simultaneously navigating the career of this iconic band. A long, strange, deadly trip into the world of The Grateful Dead.
