In November 1951 Time Magazine published an article by an unknown essayist, reflecting on its young adults (the millennials of the time), saying “It does not issue manifestoes, make speeches or carry posters. It has been called ‘The Silent Generation.’ But why the silence? What, if anything, does it hide? The Silent Generation are those born between 1925 and 1942. Now, in their late 70s, 80s and 90s, this generation seems to be the generation least spoken of. Not often enough spoken to. While marketers and advertisers seem perpetually obsessed with tracking and predicting every move the millennials make, The Silent Generation sit quietly. They possess wisdom spanning across more decades of change in the world than any other generation in history has witnessed. In this series we want to find out what makes them tick. What they have come to know about life. And what do they make of the world now. The Silent Generation is sponsored by Freedom Aged Care. Series created and hosted by Amber Petty. BARRIE WATTS Born1/10/38 Born in 1938 in Wellington, NZ, Barrie’s hometown was all about science and sheep. Finding his calling at an early age, Barrie recalls the man on the front page of The Evening Post, that changed his life. The man was a famous foreign correspondent. It was an image that lit a fire in Barrie’s heart and lead him into his own successful career as international journalist. Barrie’s network of journos from various corners of the globe gave him the inside scoop (news that wasn’t allowed to go to print), particularly what was happening in post war Germany. With a bet being made predicting a second wave of Nazi terror, it was Barrie that won the cash with his journo’s instinct on what lay ahead for the world. The Silent Generation is sponsored by Freedom Aged Care. Series created and hosted by Amber Petty.

Toby Tyler tells the story of a ten year-old orphan who runs away from a foster home to join the traveling circus only to discover his new employer is a cruel taskmaster. The difference between the romance of the circus from the outside and the reality as seen from the inside is graphically depicted. Toby’s friend, Mr. Stubbs the chimpanzee, reinforces the consequences of what happens when one follows one’s natural instincts rather than one’s intellect and conscience, a central theme of the novel. There’s no right way and there’s no wrong way. Our collective experiences matter. For the short time I’ve been a mum I’ve leaned on other mums knowledge to navigate the different phases of being a new mum. My hope is that whatever phase you are in as a parent you find a community; that’s what I hope this podcast will be, a gentle reminder that you’re not alone on this journey of motherhood. Hopefully listening to someone’s experience gives you hope and even make you laugh a little. We have amazing guests every week who are being everyday superheroes to their babies.

Forget what you think you know about pole dancing!
Started from her parents’ basement over lockdown, pole dancing comedian Siân Docksey created Pole the Other One! Podcast to find out what hanging off a stick can teach us about life, work and love. This grew into interviews with pole dancers about everything from mental health, creativity and gender identity to sex worker activism and business skills.
Co-hosted with comedian Lulu Popplewell, the podcast speaks to pole dancers of all levels about the art of stick-dangling: from hobbyists using pole to manage a disability to professional dancers and instructors shaking up the industry.
