I love to feed my continuing curiosity and have conversations with interesting people. About once a month I create this podcast from one of those conversations. So far I’ve interviewed people about aging and retirement, travel podcasting, tissue and organ donation, knowledge work infrastructure, music, starting your own business, books, writing, travel, and tamales. If you are in constant learning mode I think you will enjoy this podcast. For many of the same reasons that I am ending my blog I am also ending this podcast. It has been fun. I’ve learned a lot. I reserve the right to change my mind but for now this podcast is finished. Thank you to everyone who has helped me and thank you especially to those who agreed to be interviewed.

The Diet Soap podcast began in 2009 in response to the economic crisis of 2008. Since then it has gone through many transformations, including becoming the podcast for a critical theory imprint out of the UK.

Today the Diet Soap podcast is running under its original name for Sublation Media.

Sublation Media includes a book publishing effort for critical theory and left politics, a magazine that covers current events and theoretical issues, youtube videos on theory and politics, and finally the Diet Soap podcast. Gillian Hills gives us a detailed insight into her early life in film, music and art where she was discovered in France by legendary film director, screenwriter, Roger Vadim; the director of ‘And God Created Woman’ and ‘Barbarella’, who saw her as the next Brigitte Bardot and cast her in a version of ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’ (1959).

Gillian went on to become a sixties film icon appearing in movies like ‘Beat Girl’, her first film at just 15, in England. ‘Beat Girl’ (1960) tells the story of a young rebellious teenager who spends her nights clubbing and dancing to rock & roll. This was John Barry’s first film score. Her co-star was a young Adam Faith and Oliver Reed in their first credited film roles.

Gillian also played other key film roles in the classics ‘Blow Up’ (1966) and Stanley Kubrick’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’ (1971) which she discusses in extensive detail with the renowned film critic Anna Smith.
