    DataFramed

    DataFramed

    by

    Since Jan 15, 2018 05:00 UTC

DataFramed is a podcast for data & analytics leaders looking to scale data science throughout an organization by equipping them with the insights to drive value from data science and create a data-driven culture. Each episode will feature a conversation with various data science and analytics leaders who are transforming their organizations and are at the forefront of the data revolution. Whether you’re just getting started in your data career, or you’re a data leader looking to scale data-driven decisions in your organization, you’ve found the right community. Welcome to DataFramed!

When working with data, it’s easy for us to think about it as a mechanistic process, where data comes in and products come out. But as we’ve explored throughout the show, succeeding in data, whether you’re a data leader looking to build a data culture, a data scientist ascending the ranks, or even a policy maker looking to have an impact with data, the human side is crucial.

At the heart of the “human side” is empathy— whether it’s for your stakeholders if you’re a data scientist developing a dashboard for them, empathy for your workforce if you’re a data or learning leader, or empathy for the planet and your citizens if you’re a policy maker.

So how can we all practice better empathy? Specifically, can we all practice better data empathy? Luckily, empathy is a muscle that can be built. It’s not a “you have it, or you don’t” type of skill. So how can individuals and organizations utilize data empathy to improve how they work with data and the success rate of their projects?

Enter Phil Harvey, an Industrial Metaverse Architect in the Industrial Metaverse Core group at Microsoft. He is an expert in Data & AI Technical and Business Strategy & Philosophy. Harvey is also co-author of the bookData: A Guide to Humans, which explores the concept of Data Empathy, and how it can power better use of data through better communication and understanding of stakeholders in the value chain of data.

Cloud Wars Live with Bob Evans

    by

    Since Aug 11, 2018 22:55 UTC

After four years as Oracle’s Chief Communications Officer, Bob Evans left to start his own company and launched the Cloud Wars franchise, which analyzes the major cloud vendors from the perspective of business customers. In Cloud Wars Live, Bob talks with both sides about these profoundly transformative technologies. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. The Big Themes: • Cheaper, faster, better: Technology is making all of our companies much more agile. And that’s what’s allowing all our companies to reshore. • Great jobs in manufacturing: There are great jobs out there, but people don’t seem to be taking them – perhaps because they are what Tony calls “new collar jobs” and people aren’t ready for them. • The gift of speed: CEO Marc Benioff of Salesforce says the big thing customers ask him for is the gift of speed. • Renaissance in apprenticeships: In the US there are more and more trade schools, but we’re still catching up with the rest of the world. For countries like Germany and others the idea of apprenticeships is a big deal. The Big Quote: “You look at Apple, you look at Amazon, you look at the most valuable – or at least perhaps the second most valuable car company in the world, Tesla. They’re all manufacturers.” This episode is brought to you by BMC Software.
