    My Black Book Journal

    My Black Book Journal

    by

    Since Jan 25, 2021 02:00 UTC

My Black Book Journal is the first podcast of Act Justly | Love Mercy. My Black Book Journal explores Black stories through book reviews and interviews to uncover lessons in life, love, and leadership. We do this through a Gospel-centered perspective that is unapologetically black and unashamedly Christian. We believe the stories and experiences of Black people matter, and we desire to show the world how Black people have contributed and continue to contribute to the changing and shaping of society and culture.

    How People Move People

    by

    Since Feb 28, 2023 04:08 UTC

How People Move People, is a podcast about the impact that our words, art, stories, and lives have on each other. Each series unfolds in a multi-episode arc, focused on the work and passions of the host. Series Two, titled “Trace Elements” (released June 2023) is hosted by Jose Solís. Solís traveled between the Americas and Europe to gather stories of men and trans women artists who were impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We honor these stories in their first languages, offering half of this series in English and half in Spanish. To learn more about Jose, meet his guests, and access other program materials and resources, read the liner notes at nccakron.org/traceelements. Series One, titled “Back and Forth,” (released February 2023) is hosted by Cara Hagan and focuses on the influences of pop culture on the kinetic lives of black girls. To learn more about Cara, meet her guests, and access other program materials and resources, read the liner notes at nccakron.org/backandforth. How People Move People, is brought to you by The National Center of Choreography at The University of Akron, or NCCAkron. This podcast is produced by Jennifer Edwards. Silvana Cardell produces episodes offered in Spanish. James Sleeman is our editor, theme music by Ellis Rovin, transcription by Arushi Signh, and cover art by Micah Kraus. Special thanks to The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for their continued support of NCCAkron programming like this. To learn more about NCCAkron, please visit us online at nccakron.org.

    Black History Gives Me Life

    by

    Since May 11, 2020 22:03 UTC

Learning your history makes you – and your people – stronger. As Black people, we know we’re left out of the history books. That the media images are skewed. That we need access to experts, information and ideas so we can advance our people. Black History Year connects you to the history, thinkers, and activists that are left out of the mainstream conversations. You may not agree with everything you hear, but we’re always working toward one goal: uniting for the best interest of Black people worldwide. BHY is produced by PushBlack, the nation’s largest non-profit Black media company – hit us up at BlackHistoryYear.com.

    That Wasn’t In My Textbook

    That Wasn’t In My Textbook

    by

    Since Jun 18, 2020 22:47 UTC

That Wasn’t In My Textbook is our history podcast that helps us uncover the things we always wished we learned from that boring bulky textbook. This is the history class you never knew you wanted and that you don’t want to miss. This history podcast includes dynamic research topics, Toya’s cultural commentary and interviews with culture creators and entrepreneurs that speak to the ‘History of’ a topic from the history of police to the history of cannabis. In each episode of this history podcast learn alongside Toya, who picks out-of-the-textbook history topics, talk about lies our teacher taught us, provoke powerful conversations, and give you those unfiltered history and opinions – you know, the ones you might get in trouble for in class. Basically, if MTV Decoded, the History Channel and Anthony Bourdain spent their time debunking history and had a love child, it would be this podcast – That Wasn’t In My Textbook.

Black people have always made the most with the least. From a black man who built his own hospital to a car manufacturer owned and operated by blacks, black history is filled with those who took the scraps and still managed to build empires. They worked in their own communities, sold to their own people, and were rich and influential for it. Black history is more than just wading in the water. It’s stories of boss moves and all in the face of white supremacy. These are their stories. This is a Black Life.
