Recognizing this gap, Expanding the Outdoors seeks to amplify LGTBQIA2+ voices in all things outdoors. During each session, we chat with different people to understand how they like to spend time outside, what barriers they face accessing the outdoors, times they have thrived, times they have faced oppression, and much more. We are dedicated to showcasing folks all across the outdoor spectrum to help pull the definition of an outdoorsy person away from its stereotype of a white, cis/het, hyper-masculine male. This podcast also takes an intersectional approach, as we recognize that folks hold multiple identities. The Travel is Real is a podcast about hearing captivating stories from adventures abroad. Each guest on the episode reveals an experience which occurred while traveling, backpacking, or living abroad. These stories range from fun, comedic, risqué, to bizarre, gross, harrowing or horrific. As long as the if the narrative is intriguing, I want to hear it! Typically if an interview revolves around an arduous, dangerous, or harrowing narrative, the guest and I will give advice and tips, so listeners can learn from the mistakes of the guests and myself (I’ve certainly made a few). Anything can happen when traveling around the world, which is why so many travelers posses fascinating stories to tell. The episodes vary in theme, but laughter is always a constant. This is a podcast which does not take itself to seriously. Some interview may encompass situations that at the time were very serious and in no way funny, but as most know, when reflecting back on a situation, laugher is common. The goal is to entertain and educate, and perhaps invoke some laugher.

The Food Afield Podcast is a documentary-style outdoor adventure podcast. Episodes are recorded in the field in ultra-wide stereo. The show is about hunting, fly fishing, and back-country camping, along with all of the other ways to fill your freezer from the backcountry. Wild food ingredients and how to acquire them! This year, a little confused about the need versus the want to bowhunt, John’s season gets a very late start. This was partly by design though. It was fun to have a week of bowhunting to look forward to, and I suspect that it will be replicated in future seasons. This concentrated effort was slightly thwarted by some extreme weather that blew in for the last 4 days.

This episode is also a bit of a breakthrough with recording in the field during a hunt. This is the first time I’ve recorded content while in the treestand or ground blind. The wind wreaked some havoc on the audio quality from time to time, but some new kit has been ordered from Germany that should take care of that issue moving forward.
