    You Didn’t See Nothin

    You Didn’t See Nothin

    by

    Since Dec 29, 2022 21:37 UTC

Part investigation and part memoir, “You Didn’t See Nothin” follows Yohance Lacour as he revisits the story that introduced him to the world of investigative journalism, and examines how its ripple effects have shaped his life over the past quarter-century.

In 1997, Lenard Clark was beaten into a coma by a gang of older white teens simply for being Black in a white neighborhood. One of Lenard’s attackers was from a powerful Chicago family. The media quickly turned towards stories of reconciliation and racial healing, with cooperation by Black leaders and the attacker’s family.

Yohance wasn’t having any of it.

At the time of the attack, he was in his early 20s, writing plays, selling weed, and living at his dad’s house on the South Side of Chicago. Unable to stand by silently, he began working with a neighborhood newspaper to investigate the vicious hate crime. Reporting on the incident led him to grow increasingly disillusioned with journalism.

From USG Audio and the Invisible Institute – creators of the 2020 Pulitzer Finalist podcast “Somebody” – “You Didn’t See Nothin” finds Yohance back in Chicago after a 10-year prison sentence, tracking down key players to examine how this story connects to our present moment.

“Everything you really need to know about the Philippines, right now. Where coolness decides and night life resides. Hosted by gay singer Miles Sanchez, with indie film director Margaret Guzman, stage actress Cara Mesina, and voice actor Bon Reyes.” [itunes pic]
Four-time Palanca awardee playwright and television director Floy Quntos shares a couple of laughs with Miles as he talks about his groundbreaking Reality TV show in a Reality TV show in a play, SHOCK VALUE. A sudden but intentional deviation from his historical and critically acclaimed St. Louis Loves Dem Filipinos, Shock Value tells of a TV host named Matt (Andoy Ranay and John Cruz, alernate), whose life turns into a psychedelic rollercoaster ride after a highly publicized rendezvous with a supposedly underaged street hustler. Watch as Matt negotiates the monstrosity he has unwillingly concocted from the flashy ingredients of TV glamour and personal manipulation. The colors are tremendous, the energy inviting, and the actors almost allow you to jump onstage and indulge in the madness. It’s like watching your typical Filipino lunch time variety show–only with x-ray vision and three shots of runaway steriods. Shock Value is directed by the formidable Alex Cortez and features Frances Makil-Ignacio, Stella Canete, Missy Maramara, Dexter Santos, Jomari Jose, Justin de Leon, Mario Magallona and Edwin Serrano, along with a powerhouse cast of young theater actors, singers and dancers. It’s amazing how you can cram in so many people in such a compact theater. The play runs August 30th til September 17th at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, in UP Diliman. Tickets and inquiries at 926-1349 or 981-8500 extension 2449 and 2450. Music in this episode is called “Carousel” by Miles Sanchez.

Elucidations is an unexpected philosophy podcast produced in association with the University of Chicago. Each month, Matt Teichman sits down with a person of philosophical interest to discuss their view on a topic. Now and again, he is joined by an awesome co-host. Some of the guests are philosophy professors, some of the guests are other kinds of professors, and some of the guests are not professors. Either way, the goal is to develop a feel for how the guest’s perspective hangs together interactively.

    Chicago-Hamburg 30 Years

    Chicago-Hamburg 30 Years

    by

    Since Jan 22, 2023 15:33 UTC

The year 2024 marks the 30-year anniversary of the Chicago-Hamburg Sister-City Partnership. Join us in celebrating the special relationship with this 30-episode podcast series about the history, culture, literature, music, and people of Chicago. Guests will include scholars, journalists, writers, musicians, and thinkers who all have a special affection for Chicago, Hamburg, and the transatlantic relationship. We will launch our first episode in January 2024. The podcast is sponsored by the Amerikazentrum-Hamburg, a non-partisan, not-for-profit institute dedicated to increasing transatlantic understanding and strengthening transatlantic relations. The podcast is produced by Andrew Sola. The hosts are Andrew Sola and Douglas Cowie. Wouter Verhulst of The Soundary composed the theme song. Henning Christiansen designed the logo. The podcast logo evokes an enduring symbol of Chicago, the Ferris wheel, the first of which was built for the World’s Columbian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893. The Ferris wheel is also the centerpiece of the Hamburger Dom, Hamburg’s carnival, held three times a year in the heart of the city. The stars on the wheel represent the stars on the city flags of Chicago and Hamburg.

    Late Night With Chefs Podcast

    Late Night With Chefs Podcast

    by

    Since Nov 9, 2020 00:00 UTC

Hello there! My name in Doug Cox. Myself and my culinary school partner, Vlad a.k.a the one and only Truffle Boy created Late Night with Chefs during the early onset of COVID-19. We had one goal in mind; bring a sense of connectivity to an absolutely ripped apart industry. It is no surprise to anyone anymore that the F&B industry as a whole got rocked during the COVID-19 pandemic. Myself and many other lost jobs and had to pivot very quickly and with great levels of uncertainty. We had an idea one night at the Green Mill to start documenting Chefs COVID pivots but also their life stories. We quickly learned that Chefs from across the globe shared similar experiences and life lessons taught over a flame. This is something to cherish and we are honored to continue to listen to Chef’s and industry hero’s stories about their personal journeys through our beloved industry. Your patronage (pun intended) will help us continue to fund the monthly costs of running a podcast (ie. equipment, software, & advertising) and is extremely appreciated by us, future listeners and story tellers of LNWC.
