Design for beginners – for iPad/Mac/PC

    by

    Since May 27, 2011 04:27 UTC

How do you create depth and tone on paper? How do you create a cd case from scratch? Steve Garner, Professor of Design at The Open University answers these questions and others in this introduction to design basics. All design begins with translating ideas on to a canvas, and this collection encourages you to begin thinking about design principles from how letters are shaped to creating three dimensional models. This material forms part of The Open University course U101 Design thinking.

This podcast is for all songwriters, whether just starting or advanced – no musical background necessary! Composer and teacher Joseph Lilore covers the techniques of modern hit songwriters (“Circles” by Post Malone, “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish), along with in-depth analysis of popular songs through time (“Something” by The Beatles, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana). The first series of lessons is an interactive course, where Joe plays chord progressions on the guitar as you sing along, turning your words into melodies. By the end of that series you will have written your first song, and you will be able to compose as many songs as you wish, in any style – pop, jazz, rock, country & more! Over 45 episodes so far, with new episodes released regularly.

    New Music Listening Club

    New Music Listening Club

    by

    Since Mar 28, 2020 15:00 UTC

New Music Listening Club is a podcast and platform dedicated to consuming, sharing, and enjoying contemporary music. There are many musicians out there creating, performing, and presenting new music, and we want to explore this rich and varied musical community through a shared listening experience. The idea for the Club grew out of our desire to seek out and listen – really listen – to more new music and make time to talk about it with friends. With the model of a book club, each podcast episode assembles a small panel to talk about recent works they’ve enjoyed and share in their own words what makes the music so interesting and exciting. With the listening list posted before each episode, we encourage our listeners to check out the music, tune in for our friendly discussion, and continue the conversation via our social media platforms. On our blog (newmusiclisteningclub.com) you’ll find access to our podcasts and listening lists, as well as interviews with each of our guest panelists and occasional additional posts on contemporary music. Thanks for tuning in, and happy listening!

    Stravinsky Connections

    by

    Since Jan 29, 2021 02:00 UTC

Discover the music of Igor Stravinsky, one of the 20th century’s most important creative figures, in a series of five podcasts from his publisher Boosey & Hawkes. Jonathan Cross reassesses Stravinsky’s achievement, 50 years after the composer’s death, with a selection of musical examples illustrating the rich variety of his works. Stravinsky’s deep fascination with time and rhythm is explained and the podcasts explore his interests ranging across art, literature, myth, faith, dance and jazz. We join the composer’s journey, from 19th century Russian romanticism, through a sequence of pioneering ballets and a new look at classical traditions in the 1920s and 30s, to a radical post-war reinvention in the USA. Stravinsky’s legacy is reassessed and his complex connections with other classical composers is charted throughout his lifetime and beyond.
