The Stonewall Riots were a flash point in LGBTQ history. After the riots that took place at the Stonewall Inn in June 1969, the LGBTQ civil rights movement went from handfuls of pioneering activists to a national movement mobilizing thousands.

On this special episode we’ll hear what happened over the nights of the riots through archival audio of iconic transgender rights activists Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. NYPL’s Jason Baumann returns for an interview with pioneering photojournalist and gay rights activist Kay Tobin Lahusen. Plus stories from Eric Marcus’ podcast Making Gay History, and the story of Stormé DeLarverie from the archives at The Schomburg Center.

Hey there, my name is Nathan Holritz, and I want to welcome you to A Love Portrait: a podcast Picturing Happy Relationships. In traditional parent-child relationships, parents guide children through their youth, teaching them principles that will enable them to better understand the world and live a healthy life. But what happens when the parent needs to do just as much growing up as the kids?

In episode 6 of A Love Portrait, host Nathan Holritz interviews his two children – Austen and Addison – about life with him as a single dad. They discuss favorite memories, challenges in their relationship, and lessons learned through it all. ♥️

Don’t be a drop in the ocean. Make waves ! This podcast features interviews with amazing artists, scientists, entrepreneurs… Awesome people who, just like you, had a dream and decided to go after it. Every week, they tell you about their lives, how they got to where they are and what they’ve learnt from their journeys in an open, calm and funny conversation. The aim? Helping you finding your path, and sharing the motivation and knowledge you will need to follow it ! You may call it personal development, or self-improvement… I personally like “discovery”, or “education”.

Now, Where Were We? with Barry Cryer and Bob Cryer

Now, Where Were We? with Barry Cryer and Bob Cryer

    by

    Since Dec 17, 2021 14:34 UTC

Now, Where Were We? is the show that Barry Cryer has been waiting 86 years to make!

Alongside his son, actor and writer Bob Cryer, Barry’s booked a room at a favourite London pub, called up a bunch of famous pals he’s not seen since lockdown began, and he’s invited them down for a pint and a proper catch-up. This is Barry at his storytelling best, in his natural habitat, doing what he’s done for decades: making us laugh.

There is some very explicit language used in punchlines from time to time, but Barry’s nearly 90, so it’s sort of delightful, isn’t it?

    It Is Complicated

    It Is Complicated

    by

    Since May 30, 2020 22:18 UTC

Josephine Baird and Dr J are contrary beings, where the answer to every question is “it’s complicated”, what might seem to be simple topics, like name, age, pronouns, or more complex ideas like games, brains, pain and anger – are all treated with gentle discussion.

Josephine is a computer games academic, activist and artist – and is a “Femme of International Mystery”

Dr J has the job title “Harbinger of Change” at Thoughtworks, the gender “Transgressive Non-Binary GenderQueer” and is a Troublemaker and #queernuisance – “because … branding”.

They talk through topics from their various viewpoints – in a careful, kind and generally amusing way – even when there is pain there is laughter – because … dark.

Exposure is great – it doesn’t put food on the table. If you want to support us making more queer things like this- https://www.patreon.com/itiscomplicated

    by

    Since Apr 21, 2019 17:43 UTC

The human condition is bizarre. There are three huge questions in the world of science that have excited me for years: *what is the universe within which we seem to exist? *what is the Life that we seem to be part of? *what is the consciousness that allows us to contemplate the first two questions? However, while these questions are truly fascinating, the deepest and most profoundly useful query I have ever encountered relates to what may be considered the “dark side” of human self-awareness: How do I live when I know we must die? This is the fundamental question at the basis of what it means to be a member of the Homo sapiens species. And, it is in pondering this enigma that I am driven to curiously explore engaging topics and chat to interesting people. I am Ciaran The Quarrelsome O’Regan and this is Quarrelsome Life Radio.
