An Untimely Death on Passchendaele Ward – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since Apr 26, 2009 21:03 UTC

Everyone has their own perspective on mental health, especially those who have experienced it. ‘An untimely death on Passchendaele Ward’ is written and performed by members ‘The Orphans of Beulah’ – a theatre group consisting of mental health service users and survivors. It is a modern day farce focusing on life in a Mental Health Institution. A death on the the ward leads to a lot of questions being asked. There are nurses self-medicating, patients acting as nurses, commissioners turning a blind eye. Who turns out on top, and what actually did happen that fateful night on Passchendaele Ward? In two of the audio tracks, service users, professionals and practitioners comment on the drama an some of the issues it raises. In the remaining audio tracks, Jonathan Leach of The Open University’s School of Health and Social Welfare explains why the drama was commissioned, and how it fits in with the aims of the course. He also gives an overview of the course and who it’s aimed at, and talks about how he came to be involved in mental health education. This material forms part of K225, Diverse perspectives on mental health.

There are three ps that come with a career in music and no, we don’t mean pianississimo!

    Practice. Performance. Pressure.

In every aspect of a musician’s career there is an undeniable element of pressure. This week Alex and Helen dig into the different types of pressure musicians experience, from self-applied pressure to pressure exerted by colleagues and friends. They talk about both the bad and good effects of pressure, considering how in some cases performers can even benefit from a little pressure. They offer you their top tips on how best to deal with pressure, encouraging you to focus on the present moment and to trust that it’s more about the entire artistic process than the end product.

Edited and produced by Daisy Grant Productions.

FEATURED AS “NEW & NOTEWORTHY” BY APPLE 2013-2014 *** Urban Dharma NC is a new Buddhist center, a community-in-progress in western North Carolina. We are committed to the growing of Dharma, for Dharma to take roots in our lives here in this corner of the world, in this part of North Carolina, on the soil of these Appalachian mountains. Our motto “Changing Minds, Transforming Cities” expresses the vision of living the transformative teachings of the Buddha in a contemporary, urban context where we ground our lives in Dharma. Urban Dharma NC emphasizes integrating rather than compartmentalizing, engaging rather than retreating, communing rather than isolating. *** We believe that Buddhist teachings have much to offer, not only to those who self-identify as Buddhist, but more fundamentally to all who seek to live intentional, compassionate, and balanced lives. And we believe that we can do this best when we have a community that is welcoming open and supportive. *** Introductory topics include: meditation, mindfulness, stress reduction, Tibetan Buddhism, Chinese Buddhism *** Advanced topics include: Vajrayana, the Drikung Kagyu tradition, Chod, Milarepa, Tara, and more. *** Please report any issues with the podcast to urbandharmapodcast@gmail.com *** You may visit our website and donate via PayPal to support our work at http://tiny.cc/udncpodcast
