    Groundwork: Climate Change & Culture

    by

    Since Apr 27, 2020 23:00 UTC

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by climate change. Climate change is not just about greenhouse gases, technology, policy, and renewable energy. Climate change is a relational problem rooted deep in our culture and the ways we see our world. It comes from our relationships with the ecosystems and people who make up our complex world. It comes from our relationships with ourselves as we navigate an increasingly fast-paced and consumeristic world. Groundwork is a podcast exploring culture’s role in climate change and how it relates to us as individual people. Stay tuned—our first episode is coming soon.

Pleasurable Ecologies – Formations of Care

Pleasurable Ecologies – Formations of Care

    by

    Since Oct 1, 2021 06:00 UTC

The Pleasurable Ecologies – Formations of Care podcast is a series of conversations with artists and activists across Ireland, Finland and the UK, presented by artist, writer and pleasure activist Ama Josephine Budge as part of her Frame Curatorial Research Fellowship with Frame Contemporary Art Finland and EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art.

The four-episode podcast will explore topics of pleasure, care and rest at the intersections of art, activism and ecology. Within these transoceanic localities, the episodes are working to become in and of themselves sites for recuperation, reflection and possibly even healing. All four episodes will be released during autumn 2021 and spring 2022. The launch of the first episode 30 October 2021 coincides with 39th EVA International’s Phase Three programme.

Ama Josephine Budge (she/her/hers) is a Speculative Writer, Artist, Curator and Pleasure Activist whose work navigates intimate explorations of race, art, ecology and feminism, working to activate movements that catalyse human rights, environmental evolutions and troublesomely queered identities. Ama is a PhD candidate in Psychosocial Studies with Dr Gail Lewis at Birkbeck, University of London. Her research takes a queer, decolonial approach to challenging climate colonialism with a particular focus on inherently environmentalist pleasure practices in Ghana and across the Black diaspora.

We feature provocative, in depth conversations with people on topics they are passionate about and want to share with the world. Themes of the podcast include meditation and mindfulness, non-dual spirituality, psychedelics, psychology, ecology and sustainability and eudomainia or genuine happiness: how to co-create a more loving and thriving world. Guests so far include authors, professors, therapists, mindfulness meditation and dharma teachers, visionary artists, philosophers and other thinkers. Julian has two guests on for the first time. Samuel McCabe is a ceremonial magician and Lisa Jane is a pagan green anarchist who has been working with Julian to create the Boulder chapter of the Psychedelic Sangha and to host Integration Circles for our growing community.

In this conversation, Samuel, Julian and Lisa Jane discuss the history of magic and the occult, similarities between Western Occultism and Esoteric or Tantric Buddhism and the role of compassion and ethics in spiritual practice, as well as ways of understanding what makes something Buddhist practice or not, such as the fundamental role of compassion, wisdom into the true nature of mind and phenomena and awakening, or enlightenment.

    About Samuel –

Samuel McCabe is a visual artist, ceremonial magician and tarot reader. He lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife, Elizabeth and cat, Venus. He reads tarot and teaches courses on magic at Ritualcravt, also in Denver. You can find him on Patreon at: patreon.com/thepeacockgrimoire .

Thanks again, Julian. It was a pleasure meeting you and recording the podcast.

    The Lindisfarne Tapes

    The Lindisfarne Tapes

    by

    Since Feb 14, 2021 01:56 UTC

On a rocky outcropping off the northeastern coast of England, the monastery of Lindisfarne once stood as an outpost of religious, philosophic, and intellectual study against the “dark” times of early medieval Europe. Inspired by the foresight and dogged determination of these medieval monks, William Irwin Thompson founded the Lindisfarne Association in 1972 to gather together bold scientists, scholars, artists, and contemplatives to realize a new planetary culture in the face of the political, cultural, and environmental crises of the twentieth century. Brought to you by the Schumacher Center for a New Economics, The Lindisfarne Tapes podcast represents some of the most visionary thinking of the time, drawing connections between culture, economics, society, and technology. While the germs of new ideas contained in these tapes are now beginning to take root, they remain an invaluable source of speculative thinking that will continue to inspire our visions of a more just and regenerative future.
