Member institutions of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) advance social mobility for students of all backgrounds—particularly those from lower-income families, first-generation college students, and/or students of color—to positively impact families, communities, and the students themselves. This series shares stories from state colleges and universities that have taken bold steps to successfully serve underrepresented students and their communities. Expert discussions give listeners an inside look at how these institutions are fostering greater accessibility and affordability, closing gaps to postsecondary education completion, connecting students to viable career opportunities, and creating a more just, equitable society.

    A Woman in a Man’s World

    A Woman in a Man’s World

    by

    Since Jun 15, 2021 14:00 UTC

A new podcast for women working in environments created for and by men. Hear inspiring stories from women who’ve been there. What were their experiences? How did they get to where they are? How did they overcome the obstacle of being a woman in a man’s world? What do they wish they knew when they first started?Women are underrepresented in business making up only 6% of CEOs and 32% of FTSE 100 Directors.

Women are 67% less confident in their ability to progress than men. There are twice as many men in senior positions than women. These factors all affect women’s confidence, self-belief, resilience, sense of value and ability to ask for money.

There’s a vicious circle where it’s harder for women to thrive in business because we often can’t see someone else thriving. For women who are one of only a few, it can be easy to feel alone. Through sharing success stories, women can get advice from those who have been there. Knowing that we’re not doing this alone and seeing other women succeed is half the battle.

    The Oblique Life Global Goals

    by

    Since Feb 3, 2021 16:00 UTC

The world needs to shift to a new paradigm, but what is stopping us and how can we do this? In 2015, 193 world leaders signed up to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to achieve a more prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable world by the year 2030. We have the technology, we have the people and if we have the money but can we make this target? Romi Sumaria and Aarti Shah explore some of the biggest challenges that we face to meet these goals, share the real stories of what is being done on the ground and speak to inspiring individuals and organisations that are leading the way in delivering impact.

    Not About You

    Not About You

    by

    Since Nov 30, 2016 05:52 UTC

Not About You is a podcast about identity and social justice. I’m the producer and host of the show and I wanted to make a show where a white, straight, cis-gendered man (that’s me) connected with folks with different lived experiences from my own about the ways parts of their identities bump up against injustices. We’ll be talking about race, gender, religion, representation, protests, politics, relationships and more. My hope is that this series leads to more conversation and interaction. I want folks who are hesitant or new to standing in these struggles to feel more comfortable showing up for change and asking questions. I want underrepresented voices to have new ways to be amplified and supported. I’ve set up a voicemail line, 612-361-9261, where you can share comments, suggestions and personal stories of your own that may be used in future episodes of the podcast. If you tell me which episode you’re responding to, that will help me make follow up episodes with voicemail responses. Call 612-361-9261 with your questions, comments or stories.
