Women have had the right to vote for 100 years, but most experts believe that we will not achieve workplace parity for another 135 years! 135 years is a long time, friends, to wait for gender equality and a level playing field at work. The goal of this podcast is to accelerate this change by being a coach, mentor, and trusted friend for all of you who are ready now.

    Once Upon a Patriarchy

    Once Upon a Patriarchy

    by

    Since Oct 23, 2018 12:00 UTC

Each episode, fairy tale and media studies scholar Dr. Shannan Palma and award-winning survivor advocate Wanda Swan sit down with a special guest to talk and laugh about all the ways Disney’s versions of fairy tales messed with their heads. They discuss both the pre-Disney literary versions and the changes Disney made to them. They reminisce about jamming to “Kiss the Girl” while asking, with some real concern, “Who is Flounder’s mama?” Does she know where he is? They’re taking an outsider’s approach and looking for the counter-narratives in the stories. They’ll empathize with villains. They’ll add some color back into the mix. They’ll explore who gets to dream of happily ever after and who doesn’t — and what absorbing those messages as children taught them. Sponsored by the graduate program in Writing and Digital Communication at Agnes Scott College.

    Not About You

    Not About You

    by

    Since Nov 30, 2016 05:52 UTC

Not About You is a podcast about identity and social justice. I’m the producer and host of the show and I wanted to make a show where a white, straight, cis-gendered man (that’s me) connected with folks with different lived experiences from my own about the ways parts of their identities bump up against injustices. We’ll be talking about race, gender, religion, representation, protests, politics, relationships and more. My hope is that this series leads to more conversation and interaction. I want folks who are hesitant or new to standing in these struggles to feel more comfortable showing up for change and asking questions. I want underrepresented voices to have new ways to be amplified and supported. I’ve set up a voicemail line, 612-361-9261, where you can share comments, suggestions and personal stories of your own that may be used in future episodes of the podcast. If you tell me which episode you’re responding to, that will help me make follow up episodes with voicemail responses. Call 612-361-9261 with your questions, comments or stories.

Dare to Use the F-Word tells the stories of today’s feminists through the art, the ideas, the community, and the activism that define them. These monthly podcasts, co-produced by the Barnard Center for Research on Women and Barnard College Communications, will bring you interviews, conversations, and voices making change to create a more just world. And there’s no better place to do this than at Barnard. For nearly 125 years, this College, in the vibrant City of New York, with the first center for research on women in the US, has been a hub of young feminist activity – a place where theory and practice, scholarship and action, converge. We dare to use the F-Word. We hope you’ll join us.

What are the prospects for cooperation or cooperation in the international system? Will states always be primarily concerned with their own security or is progressive change possible in international politics? Does it matter to international politics if states are democratic or not? And what is the importance of economic change, or gender relations to international politics? In the following seven films, some of the world’s leading experts on international relations explore what determines how states and their agents behave in a globalised world and the different theories and analyses that have been developed to make sense of today’s international system. The material in this collection relates to DD313 International relations: continuity and change in global politics

Part 3 of 3 of a discussion with Retired Presbyterian Minister Tom Gibbons. We finish our discussion on mega churches. Then transition into how a church operates financially; how the church uses its revenue to help its members and the community. How “much is too much” with money and losing a church’s focus on its mission and faith. Unpleasant parishioners. And then we wrap up the episode by discussing how Tom and the church personally impacted me and my family when I was young.

In This Labyrinth: The Phantom of the Opera In Erik’s Times and Ours

In This Labyrinth: The Phantom of the Opera In Erik’s Times and Ours

    by

    Since Jun 12, 2018 22:00 UTC

This podcast draws on the world’s most popular musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera, as well as on the experience of Phanship having been a Phan myself for three odd decades now, to explore social justice and intersectionality. That said, although a lot of my exploration and analysis comes from the Lloyd Webber stage-musical, I will talk about other versions of Phantom as well, along with some of the best of Phanfiction that I’ve yet come across! And whenever possible, I’ll be interviewing fellow Phans, Phan-authors/creators, etc, to give voice to different experiences than just my own. So enjoy, and long live Phantom as a force for a better world! PSA #SaveTheBrilliantOriginal #PhantomoftheOpera! As folks may know, the London and Broadway flagship productions have been closed due to #COVID19 (read more about it on the podcast blog). So now, we need to make sure that, when they reopen, Hal Prince’s, Gillian Lynn’s and Maria Bjornson’s original vision is preserved!
