Witness Radio: A Podcast About Immigration

Witness Radio: A Podcast About Immigration

    by

    Since Mar 25, 2021 15:19 UTC

In these captivating, compelling, sometimes tragic, yet always uplifting tales of humanityfrom the borderlands, host Sarah Towle, author of Crossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands, spotlights the extraordinary efforts of ordinary heroes to tear down the walls that divide us.

It’s David meets Goliath in the age of global apartheid. But can the monster be slain this time?

Global nomad and ally to all, Sarah believes that “if you knew, you’d be outraged too!” Her tales of humanity from borderlands, worldwide, lift up the heroes still flying the tattered flag of values espoused in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights — folks who show us, every day, that there is a better way. That we can welcome with dignity. That cruelty is not okay.

Formerly entitled Witness Radio, From the Borderlands is endorsed by Witness at the Border and is produced by Livia Brock.

The abolition of capital punishment – Audio

    by

    Since Dec 14, 2009 03:04 UTC

Is the death penalty right or wrong? Does it act as a deterrent to serious crime? And is it necessarily an inhumane act? December 16th 2009 sees the 40th anniversary of the abolition in the UK of capital punishment for the crime of murder. In this specially recorded discussion, Professor Gary Slapper, Director of the Centre for Law at The Open University, Professor Barbara Hudson, Director of the Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Central Lancashire, and Dr. Nigel Warburton, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at The Open University, explore some of the fundamental issues underpinning our attitudes to this most severe of punishments. The discussion is chaired by radio journalist Penny Boreham.

What are the prospects for cooperation or cooperation in the international system? Does it matter to international politics if states are democratic or not? And what is the importance of economic change, or gender relations to international politics? In the following seven films, some of the world’s leading experts on international relations explore what determines how states and their agents behave in a globalised world and the different theories and analyses that have been developed to make sense of today’s international system. Paperless People Podcast

    Paperless People Podcast

    by

    Since Oct 3, 2018 22:00 UTC

ISI Podcasts help to unpack different dimensions to the issue of statelessness, and to explore challenges and opportunities in working to ensure the right to a nationality around the world.Article 15 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to a nationality and that no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality. Yet, there are more than 15 million people across the globe who face a life without a nationality; every ten minutes, another child is born stateless; and citizenship is increasingly wielded as a tool of exclusion. Without nationality, stateless people are vulnerable to discrimination and unequal treatment. They are denied access to education, healthcare, housing, employment, social welfare and documentation, as well as the right to own property, travel, be safe, free and equal, participate politically and have their voices heard. The Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (ISI) is the first and the only human rights NGO dedicated to working on statelessness at the global level. Our mission is to promote inclusive societies by realising and protecting the right to a nationality. See www.institutesi.org for more details.
