HCP provides a platform for community members to speak first hand about their experiences as a citizen. People can speak freely because, here at HCP we provide a friendly and non-judgemental ear along with comfy chairs, beverages, and snacks on demand 😉 These interviews break stereotypes, and help acquaint folks from all walks of life. From the bottom to the top. We are not talking at people, we are talking to people, real people from the bottom up. We talk about daily lives, passion, and understanding. By putting effort into understanding our neighbor, our community, our country, and our world, we can then make educated decisions about the world. Decisions we can take right from our neighborhood to the capitol. Our job is to help one another. The only way to do that is to understand one another and develop compassion. End finger-pointing and stereotypes and become compassionate. Compassion that becomes so clear that action is inevitable. That is our mission. One practical way we can see this change would be looking at voter turn out. We would love to see voter turn out grow with every election, and for America to become a voting culture. Now, we have all heard the history about winning the right to vote, but less than half of all Americans actually vote. We can change this. HCP is not here to tell you how to vote or who to vote for. We are here to tell the story of every American citizen from the bottom up. Personal connection to the voices and stories will provide that spark we all need to get moving. Moving whichever way your own heart guides you. Please take the time to check out Hot Chick Politic blog and listen for yourself ☺ Click link to find the latest episodes of The Hot Chick Politic Show.

Sort of like, what happens when you get overpowered by the Nevada Sun—while listening to Nuthin’ but a G Thang (on repeat)—and at the same time, listening to a heavily tattoo’d guy from HV1, intelligently-and-existentially deconstruct (and reconstruct) strange meanings of life. All from a tribal perspective. Yeah, it’s kind of like that…

    Unlikely Leaders – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since Nov 1, 2013 08:41 UTC

What do you imagine when you think of a leader? Is the customary vision of the powerful politician or business leader still entirely relevant today? In these recent times of massive political and economic upheaval, it appears that society’s faith in its traditional leaders is at its lowest ebb: for many they’re no longer a source of support or trust, and as a result people have started looking elsewhere. In this series of short films, Open University experts nominate their own ‘Unlikely Leader,’ from Russell Brand to Olympic boxer Nicola Adams, challenging our assumptions about the meaning of Leadership and encouraging us to think differently about just what makes a ‘great leader’. As conventional leaders continue to let us down, the ‘Unlikely Leaders’ might just be our salvation.

    Exploring Philosophy – Audio

    Exploring Philosophy – Audio

    by

    Since Jun 13, 2011 21:38 UTC

Have you ever considered what being conscious actually means? By choosing to live in a particular state are you consenting to be subject to all its laws? For some there’s an assumption that philosophy might not be relevant to modern life but Dr. Nigel Warburton, senior lecturer in Philosophy at The Open University argues that many of us today are faced with philosophical questions such as these as we live our lives in the twenty first century. In this collection we ask academics to discuss these questions in addition to other important philosophical issues and concepts such as the morality of abortions and the reconciling a world with evil and a good God. This material forms part of The Open University course A222 Exploring philosophy.

David Hume: 18th Century Philosopher – Audio

    by

    Since Feb 18, 2011 04:56 UTC

2011 is the 300th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest figures in Western Philosophy – David Hume. As well as an economist and historian, Hume was specifically known for his scepticism and empiricism, and was also an important figure in the Scottish Enlightenment period in the 18th century. In this audio collection, The Open University’s Nigel Warburton is joined by A.C. Grayling and other philosophers to discuss Hume’s key theories around the self, induction and his argument against miracles. A good entry point into philosophy and the work of David Hume. This material forms part of The Open University course A222 Exploring philosophy.
