Getting to the nitty gritty of living inter-culturally. Exploring new pathways for intentionally opening our faith communities (and ourselves) to folk who not only look and sound different but also think and act in ways we might not expect. A safe space where we can both accept our chronic clumsiness and overcome our unavoidable fears as our brains and hearts encounter the unexpected. The podcasts provide a practical, hands-on approach to helping people who want to open themselves to form new relationships with folk with a different cultural or racial background – in faith communities, or any other kind of community. Research was funded by the United Church Foundation.

This podcast draws on the world’s most popular musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera, as well as on the experience of Phanship having been a Phan myself for three odd decades now, to explore social justice and intersectionality. That said, although a lot of my exploration and analysis comes from the Lloyd Webber stage-musical, I will talk about other versions of Phantom as well, along with some of the best of Phanfiction that I’ve yet come across! And whenever possible, I’ll be interviewing fellow Phans, Phan-authors/creators, etc, to give voice to different experiences than just my own. So enjoy, and long live Phantom as a force for a better world! PSA #SaveTheBrilliantOriginal #PhantomoftheOpera! As folks may know, the London and Broadway flagship productions have been closed due to #COVID19 (read more about it on the podcast blog). So now, we need to make sure that, when they reopen, Hal Prince’s, Gillian Lynn’s and Maria Bjornson’s original vision is preserved! Unpacking My Privilege is a resource for intersectional feminists who want to change the world. Each week, Shanell Peterson (she/her) works to unlearn her privilege by listening to activists and educators who hold marginalized identities. We also amplify entrepreneurs, artists, and creators who are doing amazing things in a segment called “Hypegirl!” With a little nod to Peggy McIntosh (who’s most known for her writings on white and male privilege) and a heavy focus on Kimberlé Crenshaw’s concept of intersectionality (which was made by and for Black women) we can make a major difference on this planet together!

Not Only, But Also examines the beauty and tension of the in-between spaces many of us occupy. Each episode, your hosts Renee and Nicole discuss living and being free in the spaces of both/and. Together, Renee and Nicole are rabble-rousers but also peacekeepers, happy wives yet also feminists, strong yet gentle, mothers but also business owners, faithful Christ-followers but staunchly anti-religion-and that’s just the beginning. Quite simply, they are not only what others might assume, but also what they don’t. They happily exist in the not only, but also.
