    Take it from Here

    Take it from Here

    by

    Since Apr 5, 2014 01:11 UTC

“Take It From Here” was a landmark British radio comedy show that aired from 1948 to 1960, known for its witty writing and iconic characters like The Glums.

Here’s a deeper look into its legacy:

🎙️ Overview of Take It From Here

    – Broadcast Period: 23 March 1948 – 3 March 1960

    – Station: BBC Light Programme

    – Format: Comedy sketch show with musical interludes

    – Episodes: 328 across 13 series

    – Runtime: 30 minutes per episode

    👥 Key Cast Members

    – Jimmy Edwards: Played the pompous schoolmaster and Pa Glum

    – Dick Bentley: Often portrayed the bumbling son, Ron Glum

    – Joy Nichols: Original female lead, replaced in 1953

    – June Whitfield: Took over from Nichols, famously played Eth Glum

    – Alma Cogan & The Keynotes: Provided musical segments

    – Clarence Wright & Wallas Eaton: Supporting cast

    ✍️ Writers and Creators

    – Frank Muir & Denis Norden: Legendary writing duo who shaped post-war British comedy

    – Barry Took & Eric Merriman: Contributed scripts in later years

    – Producer: Charles Maxwell

Muir and Norden’s writing was known for its clever wordplay, satirical sketches, and parodies of popular genres. Their work on Take It From Here laid the groundwork for future British comedy shows like Round the Horne and My Word!.

    🧠 Cultural Impact

    – The Glums: A recurring segment that became a national favorite, satirizing working-class family life with exaggerated characters and absurd situations.

    – Influence: Helped transition British radio comedy from variety-style entertainment to character-driven sitcoms.

    – Legacy: Revered as one of the most influential radio comedies of its time, often cited in retrospectives on British humor.

In the future funerals will be very different. Our blogs, Flickr photos, YouTube videos and Twitter messages mean that preparing an eulogy will be a very novel prospect. So, unlike most podcasts in the world we don’t want you to listen to this one. It’s just 3 blokes preparing for the bleakest of futures. Nothing to see here, move along…. [itunes pic]
This week; Government conspiracies, having a stroke, the Royal waist, Canadians and (inevitably) Jade Goody.

Welcome to the award-winning* Blossoms Pubcast, recorded live with band members Tom, Charlie, Josh, Joe and Myles from The Blossoms pub on the A6 in Stockport. Each week, the lads greet you into their local for a swift half, top laugh and all kinds of rum malarkey. There’s tall tales, sound advice, crank calls, and the ‘Sixth Blossom’ – Charlie’s Granddad John. It’s a bit like Cheers… but set in Shaw Heath rather than Boston. Enjoy!*100% school attendance record, 2005.

Ben And T Shouldn’t Have A Radio Show: The Podcast

Ben And T Shouldn’t Have A Radio Show: The Podcast

    by

    Since Nov 13, 2017 11:28 UTC

Being blabbermouths and egomaniacs, Ben and T have wanted to host a radio show for as long as they can remember. They’re not good at much, but they’re ok at talking a lot, so it feels like the perfect gig. Every show they’ll go down a rabbit hole of tangents and unprofessionalism, and each week a guest will turn up to try and pull them out of it. Wish them luck. You can catch Ben And T on Fuse FM radio every Saturday at 9 am, or on this extended podcast for those who enjoy sleep and more of us in their lives. Email us at benandt@gmail.com for all your Ben and T related queries.

    On The Outskirts

    On The Outskirts

    by

    Since May 1, 2019 15:00 UTC

Welcome to ‘On The Outskirts’ – a podcast co hosted by Manchester bloggers Alice Catherine and Sophia Rosemary! We wanted to sit down and record our regular chats inspired by living and working on The Outskirts of the London blogging bubble. We don’t think we’re the only ones who can sometimes struggle with feeling ‘out of the loop’ and with that in mind, we really wanted to create a space where we can have an inclusive, honest, and open chat about a variety of subjects. This is a podcast where everyone can feel involved, so make yourself a cup of tea and pull up a seat…

    MY 90s MUSIC PODCAST

    MY 90s MUSIC PODCAST

    by

    Since Jul 30, 2020 09:27 UTC

Welcome to My 90s Music Podcast with me Mark McC. I will be bringing you regular chats with the very best musicians and scene-sters from the 90s. This podcast will be chocked full with your heroes and the people you loved and still love from The 90s. People who’s music or voices were never too far away from your ears and those who adorned your school books and you had plastered all over your bedroom walls. I will chat to the 90s superstars who lived it, loved it and who were truly in the eye of the storm. Guests will include those who were the soundtrack to your youth or formative years as you discovered the very best bands, best music tracks, best music scenes and best gigs as you partied your way through the best decade of your life. Our parents and our grandparents had the 60s, we luckily had the 90s. What a time to be alive and what a time to look back on the trials, tribulations and triumphs of a decade that will never sound, smell or feel like that ever again. The first 5 episodes of My 90s Music Podcast will be with: Alan McGee of Creation Records and signing Oasis fame. Steve Hamilton who is a famous sax player and composer who recorded and or toured with bands like Blur, Radiohead and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Mark Bedford who is Madness Bass Player and Founder member. Chris Helme – Seahorses front man and singer songwriter in his own right And Scottish National Treasure Duglas T. Stewart who is BMX bandits frontman and long time friend and collaborator with members of Teenage Fanclub, Superstar, Soup Dragons and many more of the Belshill Music Glitterati. For those of you who don’t know me, here is a little bit about me… I’m Mark McC, your host and I am stuck somewhere between 1989 and the early 2000s. I was always obsessed with the music of the 1990s since hearing She Bangs the Drums and Step On in a mate’s sister’s bedroom record player (she was out) when I was 14. I worked at Our Price Records in Irvine and Kilmarnock in the west coast of Scotland during school and University which gave me a proper schooling in music and opened my eyes to every genre and decade (but the alternative and mainstream 90s music was where I felt most at home). I was 16 when Britpop kicked off in 1992 with Blur and Suede and 18 when Liam and Noel launched the song that changed everything Supersonic. At the end of the 90s I moved from Ayrshire to The big Smoke, to London, to start working with some of the big music magazines like (NME, LOADED, MELODY MAKER, MUZIK and UNCUT) in the late 90s and never looked back (apart from my music tastes). My 90s Podcast is almost here. Please subscribe, tell your 90s loving friends to subscribe too. My 90s Music Podcast with me Mark McC first 5 episodes will be with you very soon. So stayed tuned on social media and your preferred podcast platform for more news. To make sure you don’t miss an episode of My 90s Music Podcast, please do follow @my90smusicpodcast on twitter, facebook, Instagram for more information.
