The Hermes & Hekate Road Show

The Hermes & Hekate Road Show

    by

    Since Feb 18, 2013 01:21 UTC

Part road trip, part mythology, the Hermes & Hekate Road Show puts the gods of ancient Greece on a pair of motorcycles and sets them loose on America’s highways.

Hello Road Show listeners! Golly, it’s been awhile–though if you’re following our Facebook page then you already know that we’ve begun recording Series 2 of The Hermes & Hekate Road Show. Series 2 will have seven episodes instead of five and will features a whole bunch of new characters, as well as some favorites from Series 1. (Who, you ask? Well, as a hint, the subtitle for Series 2 is The War Gods.)

We’ve been hard at work with an improved recording setup, courtesy of our intrepid producer, Erik Banach, who also gets the fairly tedious but extremely important job of mixing down the voice tracks and adding sound effects and music. It’s been a challenging spring for many of our voice talent and we really appreciate their willingness to keep working on this project, particularly since we are paying them in snacks and booze.

Recording of Series 2 should wrap up in the next few weeks, then we’ll be working on post-production this summer. Expect an announcement regarding when we’ll begin releasing new episodes very soon! And thank you for your support!

Fortelling: Story, Myth, Metaphor & Meaning as Medicine

Fortelling: Story, Myth, Metaphor & Meaning as Medicine

    by

    Since Mar 20, 2019 07:00 UTC

Myths and mysteries. Fables and fairy tales. Anecdotes and adventures. Oracles and oral tradition. Life surrounds us with themes, archetypes, symbols, and patterns that we weave into narrative to inform our relationship to everything: our selves, others, community, culture, nature, the divine. Courageous exploration of storytelling and its metaphors serves as a powerful tool for spiritual healing, growth, and change; dynamic, deliberate relationship with magick, myth & meaning facilitates personal, interpersonal & collective transformation. After all, stories, storytelling, and storytellers empower us to make connection, assign meaning, create value, heal history, explode paradigms, build the future, and reclaim both individual and shared experience. The Fortelling podcast celebrates stories, storytellers, and storytelling as magick and medicine. Without stories, storytellers, and storytelling, we lose our place in the world. Because life *is* stories. And stories are FORTELLING.

    The Emerald

    The Emerald

    by

    Since May 26, 2019 04:00 UTC

The Emerald explores the human experience through a vibrant lens of myth, story, and imagination. Brought to life through the wise, wild, and humorous vision of Joshua Michael Schrei — a teacher and lifelong student of the cosmologies and mythologies of the world — the podcast draws from a deep well of poetry, lore, and mythos to challenge conventional narratives on politics and public discourse, meditation and mindfulness, art, science, literature, and more. At the heart of the podcast is the premise that the imaginative, poetic, animate heart of human experience — elucidated by so many cultures over so many thousands of years — is missing in modern discourse and is urgently needed at a time when humanity is facing unprecedented problems. The Emerald advocates for an imaginative vision of human life and human discourse as it questions deep underlying assumptions about societal progress.

You can’t spell Game Master without “pretentious.” Well, you can, actually. But let’s pretend you can’t so I can make a point. My point is a good Game Master needs a lot of big, fancy words at their disposal to make their flavor text as confusing as possible. Oops. I mean engaging, not confusing. More at www.GMWordoftheWeek.com

Yes, once again it is time for another of our world famous Lost Episodes.

The problem is, there’s been a whole bunch of extenuating circumstances, which we try to explain somewhat unsuccessfully. But at least you get to hear some bits about swords, socks, and ninjas, along with a couple of people who really were in charge, like it or not. The whole episode just oozes with predicaments for you to try to sort through.

We’re switching up our means of support. Now, if you’d like to help support the show and want less of a hassle than Patreon used to be, we can direct you straight to Buy Me A Coffee, instead. Check it out at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Fiddleback

Wayward Children: Jewish Monsters, Magic, and the Stories We Tell

    by

    Since Jul 10, 2023 12:00 UTC

According to Jewish tradition, the world around us is filled with demons, ghosts, giants and angels, and creatures of all types. But Judaism today tends to downplay and rationalize them away, to the point where they’re just forgotten dusty metaphors. But for millenia, Jews have lived with these creatures and have had practical means for coping with them.

Join Jack Zaientz a scholar of all things Jewish folklore and mythology and John Baltisberger, the award-winning author of Jewish horror and fantasy as they explore the topics of mythic Judaism and discuss it’s survival and use in modern day culture both pop and otherwise.

    Overmorrow’s Library

    by

    Since Dec 1, 2020 19:23 UTC

The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève presents Overmorrow’s Library, a podcast series by Federico Campagna, available on the 5th floor (digital extension): https://5e.centre.ch/en/ The library for ‘the day after tomorrow’ is dedicated to books and authors whose work explores the limits of the ‘world’ as the frame of sense through which our consciousness experiences the chaos of reality. Each new episode presents a book that engages with the challenge of world-making, with the end-time of a world, or with the eternal unworldly. Spanning mysticism, politics, mythology, philosophy, video-game design and more, the shelves of Overmorrow’s Library are a space for experimenting with the apocalypse, and with the ignition of new cosmogonies. Federico Campagna is an Italian philosopher and writer living in London. His latest books are ‘Prophetic Culture: Recreation for Adolescents’ (Bloomsbury, 2021), ‘Technic and Magic: The Reconstruction of Reality’ (Bloomsbury, 2018), and ‘The Last Night: Anti-work, Atheism, Adventure’ (Zero Books, 2013). He is a lecturer and tutor at KABK, The Hague, and has presented his work in institutions including the Warburg Institute, the Royal Academy, the 57th and 58th Venice Biennale, Documenta 13, Winzavod Center, Jameel Art Centre, Tate Modern and the Serpentine Gallery. He is the director of rights at the radical publisher Verso Books. Image credit: The Gilgamesh Tablet (Library of Ashurbanipal), 7th c. BCE.
