    A Circle in a Square

    A Circle in a Square

    by

    Since May 29, 2019 22:00 UTC

A Circle in a Square is a podcast about following your dreams and noticing how we’re all connected. I live in the heart of a big small town called Orange. Its historic downtown is known as Old Towne and at the juicy center of this one square mile, you’ll find a circle, right there within a square. Once upon a time, it was a mere square where people gathered known as the Plaza, but then a traffic circle was built and the debate between whether it’s The Circle or it’s The Plaza was born. I write about this place because it’s been reborn over the last 10 years and there’s a lot to say about the sense of community one square mile can bring about. But something about living in a big, small town and being connected with my community inspires me. Getting to know my neighbors, our small business owners and the people that make places so special sparks a curiosity in me to know more, to be more aware and to just talk to other people. This people connection is what drives me and if people and their stories drive you, then settle in with me as I dive into these stories that make places that curate moments that inspire.

    Let’s Talk About Food

    Let’s Talk About Food

    by

    Since Oct 21, 2020 22:31 UTC

Because everyone has a food story. From our first mouthful of applesauce in front of our adoring family, to our first bite into a jalapeño pepper, and everything in between, food is at the heart of the human experience. We love it. We need it. Food is family and ritual. Fun and work. Sophistication and guilty pleasure, scarcity and overabundance. Food makes us ecstatic and sometimes crazy. Food delights and disappoints. Can you think of a connector that binds us together more universally or seamlessly than our shared relationships with food? That’s what we do in this podcast: Share entertaining, evocative, celebratory, complicated and funny food stories.

The Fattest Girl in the Room

The Fattest Girl in the Room

    by

    Since Feb 5, 2020 12:00 UTC

My name is Tae, and I’m the fattest girl in the room.Maybe I’m not really “the fattest” girl in the room all the time, probably not even half the time. But boy do I feel like it almost every single day. Because when it really boils down to it, being “the fattest girl in the room” isn’t about being fat at all. It’s about being ashamed of yourself, feeling like you have to apologize for who you are and what you look like, and, worst of all, thinking that whatever horrible thoughts you feel, you deserve.I’ve spent years writing myself off because I was too fat, and telling myself that I’d do [insert activity here] when I was skinnier, because I somehow though the key to a good life was being skinny. That is until I realized life was passing me by while I was sitting idly on the bench waiting to get skinny. This podcast is for all those out fat girls out there who think they’re not good enough to have an awesome life. For those women that feel like their bodies make them less desirable. And for those people who let their bodies hold them back from pursuing their dreams. I think we’ve all body shamed, degraded and judged ourselves enough for a few lifetimes.Join me and my fat friends while we tackle fat girl issues, talk about loving ourselves even when we don’t want to and share comical and heartwarming stories about fat girl life.Your body. Your life. Your confidence. Let’s celebrate.

    Live From Suckville

    by

    Since Mar 31, 2022 15:00 UTC

Did you know that Suckville isn’t actually found on a map, but we’ve all been there? It all sprung from a recent personal visit to Suckville, when I broke my hip on a bike ride, and the desire to transform that into something good. Because it’s loss, grief, trauma, injury, and a million more of life’s lemons that connect us. Live From Suckville aims to bring extraordinary stories from ordinary humans together in one place, to inspire and give hope. And most importantly, to remind us all that we’re not alone in our struggles.

The Borough We Became: Queens Residents On Life During COVID-19

The Borough We Became: Queens Residents On Life During COVID-19

    by

    Since May 25, 2020 20:55 UTC

On Thursday, April 9th, 2020 the Queens Memory Project launched a COVID-19 documentation project in Queens, New York. The project, found at https://queenslib.org/covid, has the active support of a broad coalition of cultural organizations and citizen historians organized to document this extraordinary moment in Queens history. These are the stories shared by Queens residents who are living, working, learning, and helping one another during this unprecedented time.

This episode of the Queens Memory Project Podcast was conceived and produced by the Queens Public Library Teen Advisory Board. The Queens Public Library Teen Advisory Board is a yearlong program were members take the lead in creating and implementing a project that helps their peers and community. This year’s TAB decided to work on a podcast to interview the voices they felt have been left out of the conversations around Covid-19. After much discussion, TAB members decided to highlight the voices of their peers and their experiences with quarantine and distance learning. After spending the first half of the school year learning the basics of podcasting, members worked together to write the interview questions and were responsible for interviewing, producing, and hosting the episode. Once they learned the basics of creating a podcast episode, the TAB members set out to interview people across generations and life experiences to ask the question “How are you doing?” Answers varied widely and touched upon the topics of virtual school, the disruption of daily routines, new skills learned during lockdown, and social media use. Interviewees often chose to highlight the positives of their experiences in quarantine.

Queens Memory: Our Major Minor Voices

Queens Memory: Our Major Minor Voices

    by

    Since Feb 24, 2022 15:16 UTC

In season three of the Queens Memory podcast, “Our Major Minor Voices,” we feature stories from our neighbors of Asian descent in Queens, New York. Too often, these voices are deemed “minor” – as in “of a minority.” But in our borough, these voices are a major force. From the Little Manila shops under the 7 train line to bustling Punjab Avenue in Richmond Hill, this series takes us inside 8 Asian neighborhoods whose languages, cultures, and belief systems without question play a major role in shaping the future of our borough. A new episode drops every Monday, beginning April 11, 2022. The Queens Memory podcast is a production of Queens Public Library and was made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom. The views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this episode are those of its creators and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of National Endowment for the Humanities, Queens Public Library, the City University of New York, or their employees. Corner of Hope and Wellness with Carrie Hill

    by

    Since May 3, 2021 17:00 UTC

I love stories of Overcoming and Becoming. Hi, welcome to the Corner of Hope and Wellness with Carrie Hill. Each week I’ll bring you a thirty minute, bite-sized conversation with real people sharing real stories of overcoming challenges and finding resiliency. I created this podcast so that I could explore the intersection between hope and wellness. It’s based on my own lived experience with depression, anxiety and overcoming an eating disorder. My definition of hope is a desire for a GREAT outcome – So, when I talk about that intersection, I’m talking about that place where we experience those sparks along our path that inspire us and lead us to a place of resiliency. My guests will share their day to day tools that have helped them along their journey. My desire is that not only are our stories relatable, but they will inspire you to invest in yourself through this adventure called life.
