    Overmorrow’s Library

    Overmorrow’s Library

    by

    Since Dec 1, 2020 19:23 UTC

The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève presents Overmorrow’s Library, a podcast series by Federico Campagna, available on the 5th floor (digital extension): https://5e.centre.ch/en/ The library for ‘the day after tomorrow’ is dedicated to books and authors whose work explores the limits of the ‘world’ as the frame of sense through which our consciousness experiences the chaos of reality. Each new episode presents a book that engages with the challenge of world-making, with the end-time of a world, or with the eternal unworldly. Spanning mysticism, politics, mythology, philosophy, video-game design and more, the shelves of Overmorrow’s Library are a space for experimenting with the apocalypse, and with the ignition of new cosmogonies. Federico Campagna is an Italian philosopher and writer living in London. His latest books are ‘Prophetic Culture: Recreation for Adolescents’ (Bloomsbury, 2021), ‘Technic and Magic: The Reconstruction of Reality’ (Bloomsbury, 2018), and ‘The Last Night: Anti-work, Atheism, Adventure’ (Zero Books, 2013). He is a lecturer and tutor at KABK, The Hague, and has presented his work in institutions including the Warburg Institute, the Royal Academy, the 57th and 58th Venice Biennale, Documenta 13, Winzavod Center, Jameel Art Centre, Tate Modern and the Serpentine Gallery. He is the director of rights at the radical publisher Verso Books. Image credit: The Gilgamesh Tablet (Library of Ashurbanipal), 7th c. BCE. Your Best Life

    Your Best Life

    by

    Since Jun 18, 2018 06:00 UTC

The Your Best Life Podcast is a show from Jesse Daniel Smith & Elena Rae and an extension of the Your Best Life website. When we’re not shooting professional photo/video, recording albums or managing our business we try to engage our best lives through mindfulness & discussion. This show allows us to have long form conversations about the techniques and tactics we’re using to live happier, longer lives with less stress and more understanding. Don’t let this description fool you however, this is not a traditional self-help business. In fact, our business is making music being killer at documenting people living their lives – helping others is the gift that working allows us. That means we’re not trying to get your e-mail, promoting our book or trying to sell you on coming to our conference. No, we’re trying to share the information that has helped us go from a couple unproductive, anxious twenty-somethings to young professionals who are realizing their ambitions. Thanks for listening – we hope you enjoy your time with us. YourBestLife.Cool Happy 4/20! Weed, marijuana, devil’s lettuce (sigh), whatever you want to call this stuff – it’s everywhere and it’s only going to be more… everywhere. This is a very casual, highly informative talk about the magic herb. We cover: – Our experience – THC v CBD – Indica v Sativa – How to choose your strains – How to quality control – Good/Bad places to smoke – and How to function during a stressful high with plenty of silly, candid conversation in-between.

    MCMP – Philosophy of Science

    MCMP – Philosophy of Science

    by

    Since Oct 10, 2013 18:55 UTC

Mathematical Philosophy – the application of logical and mathematical methods in philosophy – is about to experience a tremendous boom in various areas of philosophy. At the new Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, which is funded mostly by the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, philosophical research will be carried out mathematically, that is, by means of methods that are very close to those used by the scientists. The purpose of doing philosophy in this way is not to reduce philosophy to mathematics or to natural science in any sense; rather mathematics is applied in order to derive philosophical conclusions from philosophical assumptions, just as in physics mathematical methods are used to derive physical predictions from physical laws. Nor is the idea of mathematical philosophy to dismiss any of the ancient questions of philosophy as irrelevant or senseless: although modern mathematical philosophy owes a lot to the heritage of the Vienna and Berlin Circles of Logical Empiricism, unlike the Logical Empiricists most mathematical philosophers today are driven by the same traditional questions about truth, knowledge, rationality, the nature of objects, morality, and the like, which were driving the classical philosophers, and no area of traditional philosophy is taken to be intrinsically misguided or confused anymore. It is just that some of the traditional questions of philosophy can be made much clearer and much more precise in logical-mathematical terms, for some of these questions answers can be given by means of mathematical proofs or models, and on this basis new and more concrete philosophical questions emerge. This may then lead to philosophical progress, and ultimately that is the goal of the Center.

    Yelling at concrete

    Yelling at concrete

    by

    Since May 19, 2017 15:03 UTC

Yelling at concrete isbi-weekly podcast for coffee and conversation, taking a look at the life and interests of the guests who chat with me as well as taking an introverted look at topics I’m interested in!

Graham is an artist and passionate creative who thrives on generating conversation and discussion in a more abstract manner than just posing questions so three weeks out of each month with a one week breather he sits down to have a cuppa and chat. When guests come they bring their own topic so every episode is lead by the guests interests and what they want to discuss and the solo casts are wandering thoughts on subjects which interest Graham. The goal is keep the subjects diverse and give people a space to just have a chill and talk about what’s really going on.

You can catch the show three times a month on a Friday and follow it through the year as Graham brings you a range of guests and topics. The key word is conversation so we don’t edit we just talk and that allows us to relax and really get into subjects. I hope you’ll join us.

Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche

Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche

    by

    Since Dec 24, 2021 00:00 UTC

Beyond Good and Evil, by Friedrich Nietzsche A searing indictment of concepts like “truth” and “language” Beyond Good and Evil, by Friedrich Nietzsche is a deeply thought provoking book that forms one of the keystones of modern thought and politics. In this book, Nietzsche takes the position that our subservience to fixed perspectives that are forced on us by our language and our ideals make us incapable of perceiving reality. He propounds the theory that ideals are not fixed but change over time, often dramatically, and end up becoming the exact opposite of what they originally were. For instance an abstraction like “good” could mean anything depending on who is using it. Wars have been fought, people have been silenced, disease and destruction have been let loose based on what is considered “good” by certain countries and people in power. Hence, the meaning and interpretation of words really depend on the will that chooses to manipulate them. The will in turn is subject to a shifting and eternally changing viewpoint, based on the power and status of those who operate it. Nietzsche then goes on to propose a new way of thinking that goes beyond such concepts like “good” and “evil.” These and other such concepts are a bold and revolutionary way of looking at the way human beings reflect, act and justify their actions. We begin to see the world not in terms of just linear, black and white or binary terms but as a more complex, multidimensional entity, where sometimes contradictory concepts seem to coexist. Beyond Good and Evil is divided into nine chapters with an epilogue entitled “Aftersong – From the High Mountains” a long narrative poem in which the narrator calls upon his friends to join him on the mountain top. However, when his friends arrive, they don’t recognize him. He has become hard and aggressive after living for so long in such inhospitable terrains. They begin to leave one by one and the narrator waits for new friends to arrive, as he realizes that concepts like friendship can never be fixed or eternal. Friedrich Nietzsche was born in the old Prussian province of Saxony. His father died when Nietzsche was a child and he was brought up by his mother and her family. He attended a private school with famous contemporaries like Wagner, Krug and Pinder. His interest in music and languages was encouraged by his mother and he joined the Schulpforta where he studied several languages and got a firm grounding in poetry and music. He went on to study theology and philosophy and later joined the Prussian army. He was injured in the war and after leaving the army, began to work as a professor in Basel, Switzerland. From this time on, he was plagued by ill-health and with financial and emotional support from his friends, began to devote time to writing and compiling his thoughts on philosophy. He suffered a mental breakdown and finally died of multiple illnesses in 1900. Many great Western philosophers like Heidegger, Foucault and Sartre owe a great deal to Nietzsche other writers like Shaw and Yeats based many of their imaginative writings on his thoughts. Freud was another pioneer who was heavily influenced by Nietzsche’s concepts. Beyond Good and Evil is indeed a great addition to your collection of philosophical books.
