    Citizen Radio

    Citizen Radio

    by

    Since Nov 21, 2017 06:00 UTC

Citizen Radio is hosted by Allison Kilkenny and is dedicated to covering the stories that the mainstream, corporate media ignores.

It’s like Democracy Now but with much more swearing.
They have interviewed such distinct intellectuals, bands, and comics such as Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Rachel Maddow, Melissa Harris-Perry, Tariq Ali, Howard Zinn, Matt Taibbi, Rise Against, System of a Down, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Jeremy Scahill, Robin Williams, Matt Besser, Janeane Garofalo, and more.
“[Citizen Radio] has created an important political radio show that balances humor and unreported news. At a time when media conglomerates dominate the airwaves, independent media like Citizen Radio is vital to national discourse” – Noam Chomsky
“Allison Kilkenny strikes fear into the hearts of corrupt politicians and corporations everywhere” -Village Voice
“Kilkenny is one of the top 30 media heroes in the country” -The Nation
“Allison Kilkenny is this generation’s Amy Goodman” -Melissa Harris-Perry.
“Allison Kilkenny’s writing makes me want to vomit” – G. Gordon Liddy, Convicted Watergate criminal
“Jamie Kilstein is a doofus.” –Glenn Beck

Participatory development in action – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since Jul 20, 2009 23:30 UTC

Do you take your access to water for granted? The Peruvian and Tanzanian communities featured in this album certainly don’t. This album examines how development agencies can empower communities to help themselves by introducing simple technologies, and facilitate the sharing of ideas through education. In the Andean mountains, scarce supplies of water and agricultural challenges give rise to conflict; but the changes engineered by development agencies can start to show a way out of poverty. Meanwhile, Tanzanian rural schoolchildren are instrumental in bringing about positive long-term change within their communities. However, development in practice is very complex and sometimes controversial. The audio tracks delve into the dilemma of how to incorporate the value systems of impoverished communities and agencies, which can have differing agendas. They also show how development is linked to issues of identity, urbanisation, politics, economics, social relations and gender. To complete the album, Dr Helen Yanacopulos of The Open University’s Development Policy and Practice unit explains the choice of some of the case studies provided, and unpicks some of the issues that emerge. This material is taken from The Open University course TU871 Development: context and practice.

Always Already Podcast, a critical theory podcast

    by

    Since Jan 19, 2016 21:56 UTC

Tune in to the Always Already Podcast for indulgent conversations about critical theory (in the broadest read of the term!). Our podcast consists of two episode streams. The first is a discussion of texts spanning critical theory, political theory, social theory, and philosophy. We work through and analyze main ideas, underlying assumptions, connections with other texts and theories, and occasionally delve into the great abyss of free association, ad hoc theory jokes, and makeshift puns. The second stream, entitled Epistemic Unruliness, consists of interviews and discussions with activists, artists, and academics whose “disobedient” work builds upon the themes of that arise in the texts we discuss and in our ongoing podcast conversations. In the first stream we also entertain the questions of friends and strangers and dole out slapdash advice about everything from massaging a head of Brooklyn kale to sweet talking a nebechy philosopher and dealing with the vagaries of academic life. We also put on our Freud-Klein-Lacan-Irigaray hats as we provide dream analysis to (always already anonymized) listener dreams. Be a part by sending us text suggestions, interview ideas, advice questions to answer, and dreams to analyze. The Always Already Podcast is created by B Aultman, Rachel Brown, Emily Crandall, John McMahon, and James Padilioni, Jr. The text discussion episodes also entertain the questions of friends and strangers as we dole out slapdash advice to audience queries on everything from how to massage a head of Brooklyn kale to how to sweet talk a nebechy philosopher to how to deal with the vagaries of academic life. The Idols Have Been Cast Down and Rent

The Idols Have Been Cast Down and Rent

    by

    Since Apr 28, 2018 00:00 UTC

‘Enlightenment, understood in the widest sense as the advance of thought, has always aimed at liberating human beings from fear and installing them as masters. Yet the wholly enlightened earth is radiant with triumphant calamity.’
—Dialectic of Enlightenment, Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, one true God. Amen.

The times are dark, and pestilence, famine, war, and death rule הַעוֹלָם הַזֶּ֗ה.
To listen to the still, small voice in our hearts is increasingly difficult as we view more and more chaos unfolding before us: neighbours distrusting neighbours, nations taking up arms against nations, man’s inhumanity to man.

Yet to keep quiet and listen to that voice is to hear the proclamation of a new nation, the Kingdom of God, which is within all of us. Whether you call it hesychasm or דְּבֵקוּת, it shows a glimpse of הַעוֹלָם הַבָּא, which we can only pray to come soon.

In the meantime, let us show compassion to one another, comfort the suffering, and share in one another’s joy.

    On this Walpurgisnacht 2018:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, one true God. Amen.

    Personnel:
    • Eva Gnostiquette (except where otherwise noted)
——vocals, guitar, synth, production, album art, design

    Notes:
All lyrics written by Eva Gnostiquette except for ‘Bella Ciao’ (originally written by an anonymous anti-fascist), parts of ‘Love Is a Contradiction if There Is No God’ (some lyrics originally written by St. Athanasius), Movement IV of ‘A Guardian on the Threshold’ (written by Karl Marx; translated by Clemens Dutt), and ‘Venceremos’ (written by Claudio Iturra).
All music composed by Eva Gnostiquette except for the aforementioned ‘Bella Ciao’ and ‘Venceremos’.
Cover art inspired by the work of David Tibet.

    Dedicated to:
    • My family
    • My friends: three Carolines, Michael Orion Powell-Deschamps, Devin, Noiyeh, Nicole, Sam, Hannah, Kit, and many more
    • And all who fought and continue to fight for freedom, equality, and unity

“Lunch Talks” with Matt & Brendon

    by

    Since Apr 17, 2016 05:53 UTC

“Lunch Talks” was conceived when our table at lunch would develop these kinds of conversations that evoked thought and philosophy. The podcasts and articles on this channel are attempts to express—but not impose—our ideas to the world. Philosophical sage and teacher Gautama Buddha said, “All that we are is a result of what we have thought,” so it is only right that we express these thoughts to find out who we truly are. Enlightenment comes from discovery, so go discover. (P.S. We release a podcast every other weekend and an article every other Wednesday, so go check them out!)
