    Southlake

    Southlake

    by

    Since Aug 20, 2021 17:00 UTC

Southlake, Texas, seems to have it all: stately homes, intense civic pride, and above all, terrific schools. So when a video surfaced in 2018 showing Southlake high school students chanting the N-word—and when Black residents came forward to share stories of racist harassment and bullying—the school board vowed to make changes. But the unveiling of the Cultural Competence Action Plan set off a backlash that’s consumed Southlake, fueled by a growing national crusade against critical race theory. Hosted by NBC News national reporter Mike Hixenbaugh (host of the hit podcast Do No Harm) and NBC News correspondent Antonia Hylton, Southlake tells the story of how one idyllic city became the test case for a new political strategy with national repercussions.

R4R: Conversations that Educate and Elevate

    by

    Since May 17, 2020 14:00 UTC

Race for Reconciliation and its R4R podcast is designed to provide conversations that educate and elevate. When it comes to inequality, the negative voice unfortunately is often the loudest voice. We sadly live in a world where inequality and disadvantage not only still exist, but also are overlooked and neglected by many. However, our position is that of a positive voice. A voice that patiently listens, seeks to understand, and represents kindness. A voice that compliments instead of criticizes. A voice that is proactive instead of passive.Imagine the possibilities when our differences represent our strengths, not our weaknesses. What’s possible when we are unified and truly liberated? What hangs in the balance of our decision to prove love works? Our position is to leverage all platforms and partners to educate and elevate all people.

Confronting Hatred: 70 Years after the Holocaust

Confronting Hatred: 70 Years after the Holocaust

    by

    Since Mar 30, 2015 14:00 UTC

This hour-long special brings together a broad range of voices to talk about racism, antisemitism, and the ways in which hatred can grow. Interviews were drawn from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Voices on Antisemitism series. We hear from a former skinhead, an imam, a prosecutor for the Rwandan genocide trials; people speaking from many perspectives, including heavy metal singer David Draiman, filmmaker Errol Morris, and Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Elie Wiesel. The documentary examines the ways in which the Holocaust continues to inform contemporary discussions about hate speech, propaganda, and human rights. We hear people confronting hatred in their lives, their communities, and sometimes in their own hearts.

    On The Ground

    On The Ground

    by

    Since Feb 17, 2019 21:39 UTC

In 2019, a Black person can walk in Walgreens and they cannot refuse you service because of the color of your skin. We can run schools, organizations and corporations. Delta Airlines cannot say, “we don’t serve Black people.” We can attend any college or university that we like and they cannot openly deny us access because of our race. Why? The answer is simple. As Black people in the United States, every right that we have is a direct result of community organizing. Community organizing is the people directly impacted by a problem, strategizing and building power to win policy change, or resources to improve their quality of life. For our entire history in this country there is a long and committed record of people speaking power to power in order to change their living conditions. Today, we see a resurgence of black led grassroots community organizing. Community organizing is not activism. Join the On the Ground family to learn the difference. This podcast hosted by Jitu Brown, National Director of the Journey for Justice Alliance, is dedicated to “spreading the gospel” of community organizing to the public. We are not in an ivory tower, intellectualizing about what Black people need to do. We are in these streets, waging our struggle for liberation. We are ON THE GROUND.
