    by

    Since Apr 6, 2020 00:26 UTC

SHE WELL READ is a book club podcast that advocates for all types of readers. Whether you read all the time, read every now and then, or are just trying to get back into reading – this show is for you! SWR releases episodes every Wednesday while in-season and minisodes on occasion. Whether you want to read along & provide your input (please do!) or if you would prefer to listen at your own pace, all readers are encouraged to tune in. 🙂 Special thank you to the Well Read Baddies tuning in. Marlon and Jake Read Dead People

Marlon and Jake Read Dead People

    by

    Since Dec 18, 2019 17:10 UTC

Marlon and Jake Read Dead People is a podcast hosted by the Man Booker Prize-winning and internationally bestselling author Marlon James and his editor, Jake Morrissey, Executive Editor at Riverhead Books. In each episode, Marlon and Jake talk about authors—specifically dead authors. Authors they like. Authors they hate. Great books, terrible books, and books they love that you’d never expect them to. As a writer and an editor, Marlon and Jake have read thousands of books between them, and they’re not shy in expressing their opinions about them. Sometimes they’ll agree, sometimes they won’t, but in every episode, they’ll tell you what they think— uncensored and with no holds barred. (That’s why the authors have to be dead.) So, listen along to hear about the spectacularly good, the hilariously bad, and the brutally honest.

Teylor Smirl and John Holt ask you to read along as they explore books that challenge. We align our thinking with Kafka when he said “I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book we’re reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow to the head, what are we reading for?” Tune-in each week for a lively discussion of books followed by conversation with guests from all backgrounds who share their experiences and enrich the reading.

    What Editors Want

    What Editors Want

    by

    Since Jul 4, 2019 15:28 UTC

What Editors Want is a new podcast in which I interview a different editor each week from the world of publishing. It’s aimed at readers who want to hear the behind the scenes story of how their favourite books get made, and aspiring authors who want to know how to get published.

I’ve spoken to everyone from the biggest names in the industry to independent publishers taking a dynamic and innovative approach to making books. Along the way I’ve met the editors behind Nobel and Booker Prize winning authors (and practically every other literary prize), ground-breaking non-fiction (from The Panama Papers to Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race), with everything from kid’s books to cookbooks in between.

My dream is that this podcast will make the world of books more approachable and inclusive for the authors and publishing professionals of tomorrow by hearing about the career paths of industry leading editors, and how they choose their books.

Philip Connor Finn is an editor at award-winning publisher Unbound. He is the winner of the Faber & Faber Scholarship to UCL and the Cuirt Festival’s New Writing Prize. He writes for publications including Boundless, Caught by the River and The Times Literary Supplement.

    by

    Since Feb 12, 2021 14:40 UTC

The World As It Should Be is a new podcast from the team who bring you the Primadonna festival – and its prize.

Primadonna describes its weekend festival as ‘the world as it should be, for one weekend’.

But what if it could last for longer than a weekend? In this podcast series, we’ll be asking brilliant people – some of whom you’ll know, some of whom you might be meeting for the first time – how they’d create their world, as it should be.

They’ve all got one thing in common: they’re doing something amazing with their work: they’re breaking down barriers, and making people think.

Have a listen to find out more.
