Tales From the Vault, Volume One

Tales From the Vault, Volume One

    Since Sep 15, 2011 19:20 UTC

In ‘Tales from the Vault’, Scottish author Neil Colquhoun brings you a collection of 10 short stories that are linked by blood. In ‘Access Denied’ a man who is continually being targeted by a gang of local kids finally takes the law into his own hands with disastrous consequences. ‘Blind’ will make you look twice at some of the people in your neighbourhood, especially sweet little old ladies. ‘The Debt Collector’ is a dark tale in which one man realises that all debts have to be collected regardless of the consequences. A character in ‘Angel’ could really be what he thinks he is, or be something else completely. ‘Machine’ is a science-fiction story about a computer that will change the world. In ‘Genesis’, two men, The Boss and Kid A, are searching for a famous character who has floated away in space. ‘The Muse’ is a tale about a writer who has lost his inspiration and is looking for something to kick-start his creative process again. ‘Patient Number Two (Coma)’ is about wishing to live longer, not wanting to die and the dangers of a heart transplant. ‘Afraid of Sunlight’ has a stranger and a man who has memories of a dark period in his life. ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is a tale of love with no boundaries. Be prepared to listen to things a bit weird, sometimes horrific, a little strange… but all have the same hybrid horror/sci-fi/fantasy mix that Neil Colquhoun does best.

    LitReading – Classic Short Stories

    LitReading – Classic Short Stories

    by

    Since Oct 3, 2018 19:16 UTC

Humans have shared stories for millennia. For most of that time, telling tales was a verbal process. A storyteller would regale an audience with accounts of adventure, bravery, compassion, despair, enlightenment, and fear. Stories were a shared experience, until the advent of inexpensive mass-printing processes in the 19th century which allowed most of us to read to ourselves. Yet, that desire to have a story read aloud is still ingrained in our collective soul. While we still read books for pleasure, most of today’s stories are told via newer forms of visual media like movies and television. Consuming stories via any visual medium requires an active commitment to the process. You probably shouldn’t read a book or watch a TV program while driving, but your brain still craves a good story. An audio book is suitable for a long road trip. But what about those times when you only have a few minutes? Enter the audio short story. Allow me to help you fill those moments and fulfill your need for a captivating tale with readings of some of the world’s greatest literary masters best brief works. My love of the spoken word has been honed by a more than 30-year career in radio and voice acting with a modicum of performance passion from decades of stage performances. This venture is my hobby (I have a great full-time job), so much of the content is free of cost. I hope you enjoy them. If you would like to share thoughts or comments, please drop me a line. If you enjoy these stories, please spread the word, subscribe, and leave a review on your favorite podcast service. Thanks for stopping by, Don McDonald

    AudreyStories

    by

    Since Sep 16, 2019 20:00 UTC

Audrey tells “Bedtime Stories for Adults” in English: set in intriguing countries/places. Parts of the stories are true, the rest is imagination – as all good stories should be. All the stories contain fascinating historical facts about lesser known areas of Guatemala, Cuba, Serbia, South Africa, Bosnia, Mexico, Peru, China, India, Burma and more. These stories make good “Bedtime stories for Adults” who struggle to fall sleep, and are humorous – for easy listening while driving to work. Audrey is a South African Canadian storyteller and writer who has traveled to 41 countries. Some of the stories are in Afrikaans, Audrey’s first language.

Undercover Trucker: How I Saved America by Truckin’ Towels for the Taliban

Undercover Trucker: How I Saved America by Truckin’ Towels for the Taliban

    by

    Since Aug 13, 2010 20:47 UTC

For his second Podiobook, Bill Schmalfeldt goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. His follow-up to the non-fiction “No Doorway Wide Enough” is this fanciful, hilarious narrative, voiced by disgraced, former alcoholic truck driver Billy Big Rig (who can never reveal his real name because everyone wants to kill him) who — if he is to be believed — infiltrated a terror cell, went to Afghanistan, and single-handedly saved America from another terror attack in the days after 9/11. Along the way, he shares his philosophy about life, love, truckstop meals and waitresses, men’s room protocol, how he killed the REAL Saddam Hussein, and his many, many marriages. This will probably be the most politically-incorrect book you will read or hear all year. Definitely not for the kiddies, mostly for language, violence, and brief nudity. If you download this book and are offended, it’s YOUR fault, not the author’s! You’ve been warned. But if you like a bawdy, action-packed story, told by a character who is one part Stephen Colbert, one part Archie Bunker, one part Forrest Gump, one part John Wayne and 100 percent AMERICAN MAN, then you’ll LOVE “Undercover Trucker: How I Saved America by Truckin’ Towels for the Taliban.” In a manly way, I mean. Billy doesn’t swing that way. That sh*t just ain’t right! WARNING TO THE SATIRE IMPAIRED: You will need ALL your satire glands in order to enjoy this.
