This is a gentle story exploring the intricacies of a father-son relationship in a remote village in southern India. The play reveals the strength of their bonding as they work through the most unexpected of events. The story unfolds as the Son returns to his native village after a long time away. He is a stranger in his own village. He begins to reestablish the bond with his native place through the little snippets of memories that gets revealed to him through his father’s eyes. He begins making plans for establishing a co-operative society in the village, when an unexpected turn of events makes him confront the question of “what is truly important?”. While touring our shows to remote villages around the UK, we have met extraordinary people with extraordinary stories. This podcast brings together the city-dwelling Scratchworks members (Sian, Alice & Laura) with special guests from isolated communities who invite you into their village and share stories of love, history, local myths and community spirit, especially during this time of lock-down.
The pilot was commissioned by the Northcott Theatre’s The Time Is Now Project & the series is supported by Arts Council England.
The series was created and written by Laura Doble, Alice Higginson-Clarke and Siân Keen of Scratchworks Theatre. Music for the series was created by Jack Dean. The series was edited by Andrew Armfield.
