    The Roman World

    The Roman World

    by

    Since Oct 10, 2012 23:39 UTC

The Roman World introduces students to the society, literature and art of ancient Rome, through a study of its major historical and literary figures, such as Julius Caesar, Augustus, Nero, Virgil and Ovid. We shall look at Rome’s place in the ancient Mediterranean world, and its connections with ancient Greece and other cultures, such as Egypt and Gaul. Through almost constant warfare, Rome accumulated an enormous Mediterranean empire, and this subject will investigate how this shaped Roman culture, through such topics as the acquisition of slaves and the ability to import luxury objects. We shall also see how the civil conflicts of the first century BCE affected Rome and Roman identity, leading to Caesar, Pompey and others engaging in propaganda wars, as seen through competitive monumental building, and to some self-questioning in the literature of the period. Towards the end of the semester, we shall look at Rome’s lasting influence, and the way that we continue to represent Rome in book and film.

Should I stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go?

    by

    Since Jan 12, 2023 15:40 UTC

A simple question does not always beget a simple answer. Say, for example, the question “Should I stay or should I go?” – one that many international graduates ask themselves after coming to Germany to study or do their doctorate. Do they stay in Germany, a country where they’ve studied for several years or earned their doctoral degree, and start their career? Or do they return home and apply there what they have learned in Germany? In our podcast, “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”, we speak with three alums of Technische Universität Berlin about how they answered this question. They work in different fields, are from different countries, and speak about their reasons for their decisions, including practical issues like work permits and language skills. Host, writer and producer: Kevin Caners, EINS.STUDIO Editor: Philipp Eins, EINS.STUDIO Design cover: Nik Stohn On behalf of: Technische Universität Berlin’s Alumni Program Funded by: State Office for Development Cooperation at the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises More information at: www.tu.berlin/communication/alumni

Welcome to Undeclared, where we will be exploring all the challenges currently facing Higher Education. Everything from changes in how higher education is perceived, to how institutions are handling lower enrollment rates, to what makes institutions stand out in the mind of students and faculty. Higher Ed has a long and illustrious history here in the United States, and it has faced many challenges and changes along the way. Unfortunately, history doesn’t always help us solve modern problems and the world of Higher Education is facing many of the same issues other industries are facing. How to handle and use modern communication tools, dealing with faster and less in-depth news cycles, and the ever-present hurdle of differentiating yourself from all the background noise to grab someone’s attention long enough to have an impact. We will bring you conversations and interviews with the leaders of higher ed institutions, case studies on what works and doesn’t, research on trends and habits, and ultimately help our listeners get a better feel for what THEY can do at their own institution to excel and grow. So who is this podcast for? It is for anyone in the higher education space that wants to understand where their institution sits in the marketplace right now, and what they can do to move it forward. It is for listeners who lead universities and education programs that need to cultivate a vision for their institution. And it for those who know their institution could be so much more, with just a little TLC in the right places. Join us to learn and share here on Undeclared.
