In this eight-episode series, take a trip into the countercultural movements swirling through West Virginia in the 1970s and 80s. Jamie Zelermyer and her mother Karen investigate the shocking disappearance of their friend Marsha “Mudd” Ferber and explore her evolution from suburban housewife to back-to-the-land hippie to drug-dealing bar owner. As mother and daughter venture deeper into the mystery of Marsha’s disappearance, the two process their own history: Jamie reflects on her nontraditional upbringing and Karen reckons with the joyful and complicated consequences of her decisions.

Computer technology: robotic milking and interactive mirrors – for iPod/iPhone

Computer technology: robotic milking and interactive mirrors – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since May 15, 2008 23:34 UTC

What have computers got to do with cows? Can a wooden mirror help us understand the computing behind digital image capture? Neil Rowse is the first dairy farmer in the UK to use a computerised system that gives cows control over when they are milked, and allows him to remotely monitor the welfare of individual animals. Daniel Rozin has created an computer operated mirror made from 835 tilting wooden tiles. With the help of a digital camera and a computer programme, the wooden tiles mimic the digital pixel information and tilt themselves into a ‘reflection’. This material is taken from The Open University course T224 Computers and processors.

    Old Fashioned On Purpose

    by

    Since Aug 7, 2019 20:00 UTC

Have you felt it? Something is rippling through humanity at this moment. It’s a stirring… a longing… a remembering. A sense that we are more capable than we’ve been led to believe. We want to feel alive, not sedated.. but we’ve lost our way. We’ve traded a life intertwined with nature for asphalt and artificial lights. We’ve swapped natural movement for a sedentary existence. We’ve given up food from the earth in favor of food from the factory. We’ve sacrificed our traditional skillsets for apps and gadgets. But while our overdose on modernity may have made us sick, there is an antidote. Join best-selling author and mentor, Jill Winger, each week as she digs into a different facet of the old-fashioned on purpose lifestyle.
