Everwood Farmstead Foundation is an arts non-profit located on a century-old farm in the bucolic Driftless Zone of Western Wisconsin. We host inspiring spaces for artists to perform (Artist Series), teach (Artist Workshops) and work (Artist Retreat) in a natural environment. We focus on the artists’ experience because we know when they are happy, healthy and nurtured, it is good for everyone. Every day, their job is to find fresh language for the human experience. As a result, healing and restoration is possible for our communities. In this podcast, we host brief and informal conversations with artists that visit our farm. They’ll share about their experiences at Everwood, the projects that are exciting them, and the insights they’re gaining along the way.

Jupiter’s Almanac is a podcast about growing and producing the food we eat, featuring the hard-earned wisdom of chef and farmer Matthew Raiford. Matthew is the great-great-great grandson of Jupiter Gilliard, who bought farmland in Coastal Georgia in 1874, following his emancipation. Matthew and his family still farm that land today, nearly 150 years later, while promoting organic practices and sharing their Gullah-Geechee heritage through food. In this series, Matthew is sharing what he’s learned from his inheritance, plus he’s inviting other farmers from Georgia and across the country to share their tips and stories, too. Jupiter’s Almanac is a show for everyone who is interested in growing their own food and reconnecting with the land – whether you are just starting out with a square foot garden or a seasoned farmer. Computer technology: robotic milking and interactive mirrors – for iPod/iPhone

Computer technology: robotic milking and interactive mirrors – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since May 15, 2008 23:34 UTC

What have computers got to do with cows? Can a wooden mirror help us understand the computing behind digital image capture? Neil Rowse is the first dairy farmer in the UK to use a computerised system that gives cows control over when they are milked, and allows him to remotely monitor the welfare of individual animals. Daniel Rozin has created an computer operated mirror made from 835 tilting wooden tiles. With the help of a digital camera and a computer programme, the wooden tiles mimic the digital pixel information and tilt themselves into a ‘reflection’. This material is taken from The Open University course T224 Computers and processors.
