Interested in learning about beekeeping? Or you’ve always wanted to start that backyard veggie garden? Maybe you’ve wondered about how that wine ended up in your glass or why those olives in your dirty martini are so dang good. I’m here for helping us all understand and learn more about the importance of knowing where your food comes from and what regenerative agriculture really and truly means (and eventually being able to say it five times fast).

Tree Planters: A podcast about change for a better world

Tree Planters: A podcast about change for a better world

    by

    Since May 23, 2019 13:00 UTC

We live in a world running out of space, resources, and time. There are solutions. We can build a better world – a world that is fair, healthy, and prosperous. But this requires transformative change. Why Tree Planters Podcast you ask? Well, there’s a great proverb that goes as follows:“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”We feel there’s a scarcity of tree planters in positions of power these days. Each month we look at problems and solutions relating to how we live in modern society, including those of sprawl and associated consumption patterns and behaviour, climate change, habitat degradation and species loss, community development and empowerment, knowledge of and connection to place, leadership and accountable governance, among others. We welcome you to join us on our journey. Please don’t hesitate to connect with us if you have suggestions or questions.

    Let Them Eat Grass

    Let Them Eat Grass

    by

    Since Mar 19, 2019 13:00 UTC

“Let Them Eat Grass” follows one former suburbanite (me) turned farmer as I make sense in real-time of the interconnected world of farming, food, and the environment. Here, your insatiable curiosity can feast upon good food. Here, a good story only germinates in deep topsoil. Here, you’ll get some questions answered you’ve always had and learn about others you never knew existed. I started this podcast on a shoestring budget in the basement of my 1950s farmhouse during my early days of farming from March 2019 through March 2020. The older episodes sound like a time capsule of pre-Covid urgency that rings still true today. I restarted this podcast three years later, in March of 2023. There is still so much I have left to say. And, we’re losing 2000 acres of farmland a day to development or abandonment. The average age of farmers is only going up. And, the effects of climate change are only going to get stronger. If you’re like me, you love this planet. You want to preserve it for future generations. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and we must be the change we wish to see in the world. Listen to the old episodes, but stick around for the new ones. PS–If you’re a farmer, and you need some help marketing your good food to the world, message me via my website: https://www.seofarmmarketing.com

Karen O’ Donoghue Founder of The Happy Tummy Co. found herself in an industry many years ago described as “The Wellness Industry.” Not totally comfortable sitting within those parameters and becoming more and more disillusioned by what was being said and reported from within that community Karen ran away to the country where she really did begin to find herself again and rediscovered the fire in her activist nature and need to do something good for the world.

The daughter of a horticulturist father and a farming mother Karen’s relationship with the soil has been lifelong. Baking bread since the age of four lead Karen to build a preventative medicine brand around better bread back in 2013. But more on that throughout the episodes here.

Here is a space for Karen to celebrate her heroes. The women and men taking care of our soil and of our health. Investigative food journalism with a touch of awe most of the time!
