    The ARES After Hours Podcast

    by

    Since Apr 3, 2021 23:15 UTC

We are a group of instructors within our fields of fire, EMS, law enforcement, medical, and military. As a close circle of friends that predates our careers, we began working to bring better quality training, awareness, and sensibility to our fields in the areas we saw lacking and thus our companies were born. At the helm of this podcast is the owner of ARES; Robert Roy. The team is rounded out by High Risk Rescue owner and fire/EMS/law enforcement extraordinaire, Justin Miller, as well as Fire Chief and paramedic Chase Edwards. We have collectively accumulated over 50 years of experience across all aspects of first response, both in the military and civilian worlds, and are here to mentor, train, and help guide both new and old first responders as the world continues to change around us and new equipment, technology, and tactics become mainstream. We have special guests from all walks of life that intersect with that of the first responder, including agencies such as FEMA, the FBI, and other experts such as medical directors, emergency medicine physicians, medical scientists, nursing scientists, and more!

    Broken but Readable

    Broken but Readable

    by

    Since Jan 4, 2026 11:36 UTC

This is a podcast with short episodes for people who feel vaguely insane watching the news but still believe moral seriousness is possible. Each episode runs 10-20 minutes. I usually start with something human: a stray thought, a joke that maybe goes too far, a glimpse of my interior life. Then I pivot, as cleanly as I can, into a morally serious argument about power, politics, institutions, or whatever fresh confusion the world has served up that week. I’m less interested in taking sides than in asking why so many arguments collapse the moment more than one thing is allowed to be true. I’m not here to sound authoritative, or neutral, or soothing. I’m here to think out loud in good faith, to name the pressures operating behind the scenes, and to ask what kind of people we become when fear, ambiguity, and convenience start doing the work that principles used to do. If it sparks disagreement, good. If it sparks reflection, even better. Mostly, this is an attempt to stay human while taking the world seriously, and to see if that’s still allowed.
