Design and Sustainability – for iPod/iPhone

Design and Sustainability – for iPod/iPhone

    by

    Since Jul 19, 2009 22:05 UTC

Are you aware of the environmental impacts of the stuff you buy? Is that chair you bought made from wood from a sustainable forest, or was it illegally logged ? Or perhaps your TV set’s inner parts are too difficult to recycle or cause pollution when it’s dismantled at the end of its life. All this adds up to a huge amount of damage to the planet. This album looks at how designers must respond to the increasingly urgent need for sustainability in product design. Designers now need to come up with not only better, more efficient designs, but must also consider the impacts in all stages in the life cycle of a product to minimise negative social and environmental consequences. This album also reveals how new product ideas and inventions are tested before they’re turned into commercially viable products. You may also want to explore the albums “Energy and Sustainability” and “Sustainable Communities”. This material is taken from The Open University Course T307 Innovation: designing for a sustainable future.

What about female shearers and farms that give more to the land than they take in the battle against climate change? Is it possible to drought and flood proof your business through diversification so prices don’t fluctuate so much at the supermarket? We tackle the most common misconceptions about life on the land and have many laughs along the way with some of the most memorable characters you could ever meet. Partnered with Australian Farmers

    Don’t Mess with Nature

    Don’t Mess with Nature

    by

    Since Apr 8, 2020 17:27 UTC

Economists estimate the economic fall out from the COVID-19 virus pandemic could approach $10 trillion dollars, or around one eighth of global GDP. A letter to the World Health Organisation this week, signed by almost 250 organisations, points to a solution. A massive crackdown on wildlife trade markets worldwide. It is time to call out this health crisis for what it is – a by-product of the US$ billion trade in environmental crime.

When seeking the origins of this COVID-19 crisis, we need to look less into human health, but into the collective blindness among regulators and within the financial sector of the huge dependencies the global economy has on biodiversity, and the devastating impacts on us all when our effect on these dependencies, becomes increasingly unsustainable. COVID-19 is nature’s $10 trillion dollar bite back, and this is just the beginning
